First off, big thanks to the developer for creating this addon and trying to maintain it. I'm sure it can be a thankless job.

I use several Google calendars and .32 has been plugging away fine for years. But I have had a lot of problems with the latest version (1.0.1) since I installed it. I thought I had a fix; it worked for a day or two or more, then broke again.

I am just thankful that .32 is still available. I just reinstalled it and things are working again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

This was an awesome add-on until it upgraded. I know better than allow things to upgrade automatically (I'm a Windows user!), but I didn't think to change the default here. I had to reboot my computer today, and when I opened Thunderbird up again I got some noticed about what calendar I wanted to use. I didn't think much of it until I flipped over to the calendar tab and it was empty. Nothing I tried to get them to resync worked; I finally had to use one of the work-arounds here.

Has stopped working since version 1.0.1 on Thunderbird 31.1.x and 31.2.0. Even 1.0 worked better, despite some hickups.

Recommend going back to version 0.32 which still works great.

Up 'til now this has been a fairly robust and stable add-in. With Thunderbird 31 upgrade and the upgrade to 1.0.1 of this plugin it becomes incredibly buggy. The new version adds a login requirement and an authentication to allow the plug in to manage the Google calendar. At least in the case of using multiple computers, this causes the software to report errors, such as "too many connections" and to pop reminders which cannot be dismissed, ultimately disconnecting the calendar. Wait for the bugs to be fixed.

kudos to the devel for a great addon! We've been using this successfully for over a year. I can confirm that latest version causes thunderbird to freeze on our linux ltsp system, but this was caused by an abrupt change in google's api and a complete overhaul by the devel to the addon. Once the bugs are ironed out, I'm sure it will be as great as ever. Until then, I can confirm that Brian and Brunoc68's suggestion to re-install prior versions for now works perfectly on our linux-ltsp system (several users with several privately "shared" google calendars).

One note ... be sure to use the .25 and not the .32 version if your thunderbird is version 24 or earlier! I noticed some reviewers indicating that they tried the .32 version and I tried that, even so far as to crack it open and change the minimum thunderbird version to 24 instead of 25 (linux deb repository offers thunderbird version 24), but it kicks out a "corrupt file" error on install. However, version .25 still works fine without the necessity of changing the addon in any way.

I have been having problems in the latest version as well. I have 2 GMail accounts with calendars. My personal account seems to be working fine. I also have a business account that is managed by my company and uses Gmail/Google for everything. This is a more limited account and this is the one with issues. Since updating it has added reminders to a bunch of events that didn't have reminders before. This would be great but it's causing all sorts of problems. After installation I got notifications for 50+ past events it added reminders to. 3 of these event reminders could not be dismissed. Whenever I tried clicking the Dismiss button, either next to the event or the Dismiss All nothing would happen. If I view the calendr in Thunderbird I see a yellow exclamation point icon next to the calendar. If I mouse over that it says "The calendar XYZ is momentarily no available", or something like that. I tried deleting the past events directly in Google and re-creating the calendars in Thunderbird but the reminders still showed up. I tried clearing all saved passwords and flushing the cache, but it still showed up. Nothing worked. What else is odd is that when adding the calendar I see the "please choose a session" dialog box. The only active session listed was my personal Gmail, even though I had my business account and was getting email for it. It's like it can't communicate with anything but a personal level Gmail account.

Last night I tried completely deleting all addons and re-installing them. However, since then, I can't install the Provider for Google Calendar. Was it taken down due to these issues? I can still download it from the site but the Thunderbird add-on manager can't get it.

Anyway, like others, I have chosen to downgrade to 0.32 until these issues are resolved. Hopefully they will be soon. It looks like a lot of nice features have been added, but it has to work to be usable.

This last update simply does not work : please remove it immediately so that the current users are not automatically updated. The previous version was excellent !

The upgrade changed url of the existing set-up calendars to comply with googleapi ; therefore when going back to previous version of the extension the url of the calendars were wrong and they could not be seen.

The only solution was to :
1. delete all calendars
2. downgrade to previous version of the addon
3. disable automatic updates (whether this really work I am not sure : I always do that and still I got the update)
4. configure the calendars again with the older url format

I confirm the above worked fine with several calendars.

Same as Igor and Ries, I have downgraded for now until issues are worked out.

Downgrade:
* Make sure to backup you calendars, I recommend backing up from both Thunderbird and the Google web interface.
* Delete Google calendar(s) from Thunderbird and remove the current version of the add-on
* Install version 0.32 from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/provider-for-google-calendar/versions/ and make sure you disable automatic updates for thisadd-on.
* Re-add your Google Calendars (On the Network -> Google Calendar -> and use the Google's (private) XML feed url as location)
* Set a calendar item to check back at this page at a later stage to see if things are fixed and if you can enable automatic updates for it again.

I encountered several issue which lead me to the downgrade:
* First thing I noticed after the upgrade was almost 100 of my appointments were reset and causing a reminder of these old events.
* A day later I noticed I was missing many events I recently created, but they were still visible in the web interface.
* As suggested here I removed the Google calendars from Thunderbird and tried to re-add them, but this lead to more problems.
* When I tried to add a new Google Calendar to Thunderbird I was presented with a blank page in the wizard window, preventing me from adding any Google Calendar at all. It seems this was caused by the Google birthdays add-on which somebody else mentioned is incompatible (and unneeded) with the new version of this add-on. After disabling the Google Birthdays add-on this issue was solved. And my calendar was working...
* ...until today. Today a yellow exclamation mark showed up next to my Google Calendars telling me these calendars were unavailable. I could still see the events on them, but unable to make any changes.

Running this on my main machine it isn't worth it to deal with the problems while trying to get work done. The older version works fine for now. Although I do hope the issues will be resolved eventually. This seems to a big update after a long time, good to see development hasn't stopped.

Right method for r/w access

(as explained here https://developers.google.com/google-apps/calendar/caldav/v2/guide#connecting_to_googles_caldav_server and there https://blog.mozilla.org/calendar/2013/09/google-is-changing-the-location-url-of-their-caldav-calendars/)

is to use CalDav, with such type address :

https://apidata.googleusercontent.com/caldav/v2/calid/events

where calid is the html calendar address of that shape :

a1z2e3r4t5y6u7i8o9%40group.calendar.google.com

(at least for the moment)

You could also use CalDAV to sync the calendar with google calendars.

https://blog.mozilla.org/calendar/2013/09/google-is-changing-the-location-url-of-their-caldav-calendars/

Just follow that instructions, login, and it's working. (Bidirectional sync, not just for downloading, but be sure to pick the right calendar when creating events).

Igor is right. Version 1.0.1 doesn't do the job, version 0.32 still works!

Windows 8.1 64bit, Thunderbird 31.1.2., Lightning 3.3.1.
Sync with Google Calendar not working any more with Provider for Google Calendar 1.0.1.. Re-installing lightning, provider and calendars has no effect, now one cannot even select "Google Calendar" or "CalDav" options any more during set-up. Going back to Provider 0.32 does not solve the problem. Is anyone aware of a work-around or an alternative to the Provider (I think this is the problem, or Google has changed anything on the interface...)? Help is much appreciated! Emil

The latest version 1.01 is not set up for offline support. But rather supports only permanent online use. I tried to downgrade to v 0.32 but it is not compatible with the latest thunderbird 24.4.0. It seems like provider for google calendar is trying to be more like Google Calendar Tab rather than what it previously was. It seems like v 1.01 is a total re-write of the program rather than the upgrade. Urgent need to fix offline support so that it is possible to view calendars even when offline.

I love this add-on, but 1.0.1 doesn't work for me. I uninstalled Lightning and Provider, re-installed Lightning and then provider 1.0.1. New calendar -> google calendar -> my gmail address -> then a screen to choose my calendar/tasks, but this had nothing for me to choose! Having got stuck there I uninstalled 1.0.1, found previous vsn 0.32 and re-installed that. Then I set up the calendar link using the old-style private XML link that's still provided on the Google calendar settings page, and it's now working again in Thunderbird/Lightning. I'm not sure for how long though, if 1.0.1 was an essential release! Vsn 0.32 available here...
