Many thanks - I had the same issue - and I think 'by date' ought to be the default.

It is silly that this is not the default, or at least remembered.

However, this plug-in does exactly what it says it will, which is exactly what I wanted!

This should be the (possibly configurable) default value for search results in Thunderbird application.

Thank you so much!

It's a sad time though, in which one must write an extension to get the basic behaviour, the one where the system doesn't have the presumption of deciding what's relevant for the user, with ever more sophisticated and intransparent pseudo-"intelligent" behaviour crippling the things we use every day.
