Great plug-in. It was briefly not working, for a couple days, but It's working again for Thunderbird 91.5.0 on Kubuntu 20.04, as of Wed Jan 26, 2022. Thank you!!!

Thunderbird is motivated by the calendar feature without using this add-on.
I also disabled this add-on and set it in Thunderbird after it became unavailable.

Dear Philip:
Thank you so much for your work.
Your add-on gives Lightning it's true power, making possible to extend the Thunderbird ecosystem to Google Calendar and hence sync appointments and reminder with mobile devices.
I hope many of us fund your work.
Big Regards

Es funktioniert wieder!
Wie bereits hier angesprochen, spendet dem Programmierer wenigstens ein Bier ;-) Ich habe es soeben gemacht!
Danke für dieses tolle Add-on!

@b_quest made a good point. I was using this plugin for a long time and didn't bother to visit this page until it didn't work. Which doesn't say anything good about me.
But here I am now and I did donate to the author, because he does a great job, which is underappreciated.

To all "connection-issue-downvoters": THINK! P-L-E-A-S-E.
The Error message is clear, the Add-On exceeded a connection limit set by GOOGLE. So If you want to 1-star someone, head over to the responsible Google-Department.
But yes, downvoting here will help solving the issue as well, *provided that* you uninstall the add-on and leave the connection volume for the remaining users.
I took this issue as a reminder that developers may need some funding and donated a bit. I am pretty sure you can exceed your allowed connections @google if you hand over some money to them ...
So again, please everybody, think global, act local and if you enjoyed the Add-on until today, donate a beer to the dev, I am pretty sure he will work on getting the Add-On going again.

"Re-use same key as 91.0.2 to avoid rate limit exceeded errors " ==> what does it mean? How do we do that?

Vasilis Ant's procedure is the fix, along with turning off Provider for Google Calendar. So it looks like Thunderbird now supports Gcal natively, and this plugin no longer works / is not needed.
But it was needed for a long time. Thank you Philipp for bridging this gap for as long as you did!
Google support is useless as usual. I panicked when I could not longer access my calendar and got on support chat for Google Workspace. I ended up finding the problem on this page myself and telling the support person about it. They could only say that they don't comment on non-google products!
