Awesome addon, an icon indicating the "privateness" of tabs would be nice though.

I combined this one with Proxy Privacy Ruler and I can browse privately in tabs and with a proxy. Fantastic.
I have always hated the private windows.
Only thing, I would love an icon or a mark on the tab itself to know it is in private mode.

I need one more feature. Because I open many shortcuts randomly and open them as a tab, I'd like to have the new tab be private (perhaps if the existing tab it opens next to is private). This would provide an automatic private tab without having to edit a url.

Should be fixed at Mozilla Add-ons home page.

А можно сделать так чтобы определённые сайты всегда открывались в приватном просмотре?

Hey, I've been using this extension for a while now and its functionality is amazing. Very well done.
I have one big problem, though:
It's not working on the latest 46.x nightlies anymore. Did something change about the extension API again and is this a known issue or is my install just faulty? I've tried re-installing the extension multiple times and have also tried new profiles.
Edit:
Stupid me, never mind. I found the experimental build that is working on the new builds...should have visited the forums first!

Simple and effective. It would be even better if it would offer the option to always open certain domains in a private tab...
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.1.9).You can try https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/auto-private/ extension.

I've used this for a long time and it's a major reason that I stick with Firefox, so very handy to have 2 browser sessions happening in the same window. I'm well overdue to write a review, love it!
Recently switched to Firefox 45 / developer edition I have found that when I click the "Open a new private tab" toolbar button, it does so and the new tab appears to be private, but as soon as I go to a website it reverts to being non-private. I then have to right click it to make it private again, after which it stays private. Would be great if that bug can be fixed.
Also, would be cool if when I'm on a private tab and I click "View Source", it opened the View Source tab as a private tab too. It currently seems to open it in a normal tab.
> I then have to right click it to make it private again, after which it stays private.
This is due to enabled multi-process mode, see

I'll try to fix View Source tab, thanks for report.

As I said, simple and excellent : right-click the tab in question and choose "Private Tab"… end of story. To cancel, right-click again and choose "Public Tab" ( or, if you're done, simply close the tab outright ). Allows you to have both public and private tabs within the same Firefox window. Didn't realize how much of a shortcoming the other (standard) way was until I saw this extension out of the corner of my eye . . . while searching for something else, no less. Serendipity, y'all. ;^˃

@jsmithson:
"Question: In the newest Firefox 42.0, they've added some anti-tracking features to private windows. I assume that works in private tabs too, but I'm not sure. Does anybody know?"
Tracking protection does not work in private tabs. It's easy enough to check, and I just did: Load a page in a private window. Click the address bar icon. You will see "Tracking Protection" there. Now load a page in a private tab. No "Tracking Protection" entry.
Indication doesn't work (and this should be corrected, of course), but looks like tracking protection is also enabled for private tabs (you can check this through built-in developer tools, Network tab).

I love how now you can use private tabs and not just private windows, but is their a way you can make it so if you type in Public:Url or //public, so you can either go to a website, disabling private mode or make the tab public, thanks for the add on
