Like it the features, but its true taht it takes a lot of CPU on my system! Please improve!
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.4.1).I have never seen this even on old CPUs. Uncheck enable interest filter in options > general > enable interest filter as this is really the only thing that uses much CPU at all.
If you have Firebug installed, see also https://www.mozdev.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=17877
although I don't know if Firebug still has this bug.

I have been using NewsFox every since I started using Firefox. This addon has worked well for me and I thank the author for his efforts.

I updated minutes ago to 1.0.4 from 1.0.3.1 and it ate all the older-than-10-days unread posts I was keeping from a wordpress feed. I had the feed set to "do not delete old entries" and the new version ignored it completely! WTF?!?!
For the record, my rating is 0/5 but some weird reason the system won't allow it.

The more I use this addon, the less I like. It is a 3 pane RSS reader, but it is super slow in downloading feeds, suck up 90% of a CPU on a dual core system, and randomly seems to hang or get "busy" doing something. I am using 1.0.3.1 version, but have to suggest maybe some other RSS reader may be a better choice. If this thing had the functionality of Mozilla Thunderbird so that articles could be cached locally, and speed of access & download was fast, it would be a much better product. Look elsewhere.

Pros: Does work as a 3 pane RSS reader
Cons: Slow, tends to lock up Firefox, takes a really long time to update the feeds, sometimes locks up or crashes Firefox. Moving between articles is quite slow as it appears nothing is cached locally. The feeds that are shows only show articles from the past couple of days, there does not seem to be a mechanism for getting feeds previous available.

could you make storage to be sql based(not xml), and listview to be lazy, so it is possible to have feed with thousands of entries ?
and add option not to index entries for tags ? with my set of feeds it takes long time....
Please comment over here for SQLite: http://newsfox.mozdev.org/drupal/content/use-sqlite-storage.
Tags shouldn't cause any slowdown.

Well, it is a very useful addon with a brilliant idea.
But it has 2 issues which cause trouble to me:
1. The lack of NewsFox option to choose it as RSS reader in Firefox setting because of missing entry in about:config
I need to dig through this page: http://newsfox.mozdev.org/drupal/node/5/9#comment-9 in order to find the solution. This is so annoying to users, especially those are new to Firefox, as there is no clear instructions to user before installation.
2. The status icon is too BIG, making the status bar becomes flat for some themes, why no option to turn it off?
But for these 2 unpleasant experience, it should worth 5 stars definitely.
1. Installed automatically unless there is a problem encountered on your system.
2. Main options, general tab. It is 16x16 with no decoration when using the normal CSS.

This is the best feed reader I've tried so far.
I just have one suggestion: I have a lot of feeds I keep track of, and they tend to fall into certain categories (hobbies, school, entertainment, for example). I wanted to make separate groups for each category and move the feeds into the appropriate groups, but NewsFox only adds a copy of the feed into the new group. It doesn't move it out of the default FEEDS group, and I can't delete it from the FEEDS group. That means that I end up with duplicate copies of RSS feeds.
If it weren't for that, I'd give this plugin 5/5.
There is only one copy of the feed, just as there is only one copy of a bookmark in Firefox 3, even though it may appear in many smart bookmarks. There are no folders in NewsFox, only groups that provide methods to handle the single copy of all your feeds.

1) помечать прочитанным при просмотре в течение N секунд или нажатием горячих клавиш;

I like Newsfox, BUT, I can't seem to find a way of automatically deleting news articles after they have been read and are, say, 1 week old. As far as I can see, the number of news articles will just keep growing and growing, unless I delete articles individually and with 12000 articles that's impossible.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.2).Unless you change the defaults, old read articles are deleted when they disappear from the feed file. The deletion is controlled in the feed options.

Are you sure you wish to permanently delete these articles? Ask for confirmation when deleting groups, feeds or articles.
Ask for confirmation when deleting groups, feeds or articles, а Ask for confirmation when deleting groups or feeds

It is a known bug, fixed in 1.0.2. It was an unintended consequence of fixing bug#19200. Sorry it is in English.

Not so user-friendly at first but, once learnt, shows a very good customisation and many functionalities

I think it's an excellent extension.
I've only a suggestion:
Actually to see if there's a new feed I've to mantain the newsfox tab open.
Could you implement a function that consent at newsfox reader to run in background (for example minimize it in status bar)?

Just what I was looking for! I can have a clean preview of just the article, or I can view it on the actual web page. Not bloated, intuitive design. The only interface suggestion I would make so far is to have the "Add feed" button come before the "Add group", since I never use groups but I add feeds quite often. Another minor, picky, tiny point: the icon for the whole add-on (the fox with a book/newspaper) is a bit too complicated and unintuitive when I'm using small icons and it's on my toolbar.
Edit: ooh, just discovered that I don't know how to copy the URL of an article. I tried right-clicking on the article title the right-hand, upper pane (the most intuitive place, IMO), but there's no "Copy" option. This would be a great feature.
Developer is a fan of short context menus. So to copy the URL of the article right-click on the article title(link) in the lower-right(view) pane and use browser methods. Bookmark this link and copy link location are both on the default Firefox context menu for links. If you\'re thinking of copying the URL, you must be interested enough to have viewed it in the view pane....
