Below is a repeat of the earlier post by Spacetech . I used this method and now have my Minimize to Tray back on FF3. Works fine with no apparent side effects.

(If you want this extension to work for firefox 3 download http://www.mrtech.com/extensions/local_install/ and when you install minimizetotray check the "override 'max version' compatability checking" checkbox. It works fine!)

I could not get the steps to work after extracting the .zip, modifying the .rdf file, and re-zipping. When I went to install, I was greeted by a blank install panel after the .xpi began loading. I found a forum entry (modified slightly for this situation) that worked perfectly for me. Basically, the issue was with the re-zipping process - it doesn't need to be done.

1. Save the .xpi file to your desktop
2. Rename the .xpi extension to .zip
3. Extract the contents of the .zip file
4. Open the newly extracted folder
5. Grab the install.rdf file and put it on your desktop
6. Delete the extracted zip folder and its contents
7. Open the install.rdf file with a text editor (Notepad)
8. Change the Mozilla Firefox entry from 2.0.0.* to 4.0.0.*
9. Do a plain save so the file retains the .rdf extension
10. Go to your desktop (updated install.rdf and original .zip s/b there)
11. Drag and drop the install.rdf file over the .zip file
12. Click yes to overwrite the old install.rdf file
13. Rename the .zip extension back to .xpi
14. You should now be able to install the .xpi in Firefox

Six steps works like a charm.

Thanks for helping us out.

The 6 steps DO work. Those of you who couldn't get it to work were probably not editing the file in edit mode, but a temporary file which never gets put back into the zip.

Rename .xpi to .zip, extract the zip, edit the file, rebuild the zip, rename to .xpi then install.

Agree with previous review. The six steps do work.

This add-on is a great space saver in the taskbar! I can now keep a window open for later, and it is kept in the tray (Windows can then auto-hide the icon after some time). The six steps helped me get it working in FF3!

I highly recommend this add-on!

Six steps doesn't work - it installs, but after that still shows that it's incompatible with 3.0(((

Click the above link to download the compatible version with FF 3.

Enjoy!!!

The tool was great, I was using it to hide the windows which I didn't want my boss to see at work :). Please release a version that is compatible with Firefox 3.

Thanks,
