My Reviews

Free Memory Button

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

No button after adding the extension to Waterfox 56.0.1 on FreeBSD-CURRENT.

Periodic Memory Usage Dumper

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Folder Pane View Switcher

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Testing 1.12beta2 with Thunderbird 52.4.0 (64-bit) on FreeBSD-CURRENT.

Nice! I had forgotten that the views existed.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.12).

AMO Browsing for SeaMonkey

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Five stars for 0.9.17, now I'll test pre-release 0.10.0 alpha 2 from https://github.com/lemon-juice/AMO-Browsing-for-SeaMonkey/releases …

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.17).

SeaMonkey Vertical Tab Bar

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Without this extension, I would rarely use SeaMonkey.

Five gold stars if, in the future, drag-and-drop ordering can be made better; and if the sidebar can be resized by dragging.

Stylish - Custom themes for any website

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

There should be clearer forewarning of the possible consequences of allowing an update from 2.1.1 to 3.0.1.

I see developer responses such as:

> … We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that after you migrate your styles …

Developers, please: make things clear _before_ inconveniences occur.

The new interface is not suitably clear. 'Manage all styles' does not manage all styles, and so on.

After 3.0.0 I reinstalled 2.1.1.

Now: from 3.0.1 back to 2.1.1 …

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.0.1).  This user has a previous review of this add-on.

Stylish - Custom themes for any website

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The release note for 3.0.0 offered no forewarning that some types of style that are usable with 2.1.1, to which I have reverted, are unusable with 3.0.0.

For the unacceptably poor release note, and the negative consequence: the lowest possible rating. One star.

At a future date I might take a different approach to the required styles but for the foreseeable future, it will be easier for me to continue with what's trusted: the legacy extension, not constrained by WebExtensions APIs.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.0.0).

Session Manager

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Five gold stars.

Session Manager is – amongst many other things – an essential workaround for a Mozilla bug that can cause the first window of Firefox to be non-functional for a variety of extensions.

Long live legacy Session Manager! Long live Firefox 56!

Page Translator

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

https://discourse.mozilla.org/t/-/19044?u=grahamperrin

– I'd prefer this extension to not consume space from the location field in Firefox 55.x.

Add-ons Manager Context Menu

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Disable Add-on Compatibility Checks

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Apparently effective with Firefox 55.0.3 (64-bit) on FreeBSD-CURRENT.

Video editor online Avidemux with SeaMonkey

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Pros: more options than can be found at http://www.offidocs.com/index.php/desktop-online-messaging-apps/seamonkey-online-internet-application-suite

Cons: with or without the extension, the option 'Automatically fit to browser window' is not reliable. I typically see unused space to the right, whilst the left of the application is obscured.

Slim Add-ons Manager

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

A great complement to Vertical Tabs Reloaded https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/vertical-tabs-reloaded/ and sidebars.

Event-to-task conversion activator

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=277731 was fixed.

There remain issues such as
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=445305
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=553158
and I wondered whether this add-on might offer an superior approach in those environments but I guess that the add-on will not be developed for modern versions of Sunbird or Lightning.

Lightning Nightly Updater (Unofficial)

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

0.10.100228 refers to http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/calendar/lightning/nightly/latest-comm-1.9.1/macosx-xpi/ which does not exist.

Maybe a consequence of https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=550789

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.10.100228).

Keychain Services Integration

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

> Importing or "falling through" to the
> existing storage mechanism

First thought: a more useful approach might be a one-off export from Firefox, to a keychain. FWIW I would not expect Mac OS Keychain 1.x to include export features.

An assumption: users who prefer integration with keychains may also prefer Sync Services, truth database etc. (in lieu of Mozilla Weave and the like).

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0a6).

Keychain Services Integration

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

A minor point: a better name for the add-on might be:

  Password integrator for Keychain Services
