Likes: Option to show more than just the headline in the right-hand pane; OPML import feature; the ability to adjust the article font size; if you click an article to read it, then click "back" to return to the article list, the add-on remembers your scroll position; toolbar button to toggle it on/off is handy; ad blocker feature is fantastic.

Changes I'd like to see: The gray-on-gray feed listing on the left is too low contrast for easy readability; although the article font size can be adjusted, the headline font size cannot, and the font is VERY small; would be nice to have the ability to apply different style sheets.

Overall, it's a great effort.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.4.2.1-signed).

About feed listing contrast, are using a theme ?
If you have a different display with the theme activated and desactivated please report it by email at bamboo.feedreader@gmail.com.

About font size, you can use Firefox/Thunderbird zoom feature in tab display mode. (View > Zoom)

I was looking for an RSS plugin that would open up feed updates in a popup, similar to the likes of Echofon, rather than a tab or a toolbar when I found Bamboo. A wonderful plugin.

The only thing I'd request adding, personally, would be the ability to have an update notification sound.

I chose this addon because I'm trying to move away from Google apps wherever I can. I like Bamboo so far, but there are a couple of things I dislike. First, TiRANiD's suggestion of having tabs from feeds open in the background. Secondly, I have a couple of feeds that end up with all of their items marked as new whenever the reader scans for new items. I have no idea if there's any current way to put a stop to this, but it's pretty annoying. Also, most of what I follow is webcomics, and the images don't always fit within my browser window, so either automatic resizing for the mouseover popup or a scrollbar as long as the cursor stays within the popup would be great.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2.1-signed).

You can use middle click to open links in the background.
In list mode if the popup does not show the entire content you may use the new "view details" iconic button (on the left of the title) to quickly show the full feed item content.

If you still have feeds with all unread items after update with the LAST version of the add-on please send me the feed URL by email at bamboo.feedreader@gmail.com

Man, this is Very inconvenient that the text in a feed Can Not be selected! For example in a feed 'Quotes of the day'.
Add the feed and try to select the text in a quote - http://feeds.feedburner.com/quotationspage/mqotd
I keep these quotes in a Word file and I need somehow to select and copy the text from the feeds!

The second issue - The tabs Should be opened in the Background. I usually open up to 10 pages from the feeds' tab, and it's Very annoying to click Bamboo tab again and again to focus it!

And the third - The main window in which the feeds are displayed constantly moves several pixel to the right and back when the feeds are being updated. This looks awful. Can you just make the position fixed?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2.1-signed).  This user has a previous review of this add-on.

1. Text in feed content can now be selected and copied.

2. To open a link in background you can use the middle click.

3. The position is now fixed during update.

I was looking for an alternative to Brief, which stopped working properly after FF version 9 came along (it no longer opened articles in a new tab). Bamboo is actually very similar to Brief, and seemed to work properly. However, it does not permit scrolling through the feed list with page up/down or arrow keys. You can only scroll with the mouse. Having a chronic pain condition I have to keep my mouse use to a minimum, so that's a deal breaker for me. Give me keyboard scrolling and I'll be back!

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2.1-signed).

The new version includes keyboard shortcuts.
You can use left and right arrows to scroll in the list.

Great addon.

I'm running Bamboo 1.2 and FF 10.0 (had same issue with FF 9.0.1).

Sometimes the notification icon in the toolbar does not update to the blue icon (no new items) after having read and marked all read. The orange numbered icon remains at whatever the last number was.

This behavior is sporadic. Seems to be sometimes be related to how many FF windows/tabs are open.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2.1-signed).

This add-on is not built to be used in several windows.
I suggest you to use it only in the main window (you also can use groups)

A really nice feed reader and a fine design. My only problem is: how to make this my default reader, so that when I click on an, let's say, AtomFeed-item, the feed is automatically added to bamboo? I'm using ubuntu 10.04. Thanks and keep up the good work!

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2.1-signed).

Bamboo can be used as Firefox default feed reader in the new version.
This feature require a restart after installation.

The behavior didn't change with 1.4. Still the same problem.

###

Hmm.

On several feeds clicking on the header link doesn't open the article website but the dialogue to add this same feed...

It's kinda paradox...

Example:
1. opening in bamboo tries to open url alles-schallundrauch.blogspot.com/feeds/7645367999364776346/comments/default - this url makes firefox ask if I want to subscribe to the feed.
2. opening same article header in default firefox feed bookmark opens http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/SchallUndRauch/~3/SYFRPQXOCQY/newt-gingrich-auf-drogen-quatscht-nur.html which refers to http://alles-schallundrauch.blogspot.com/2012/01/newt-gingrich-auf-drogen-quatscht-nur.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+SchallUndRauch+%28Schall+und+Rauch%29

So where is the issue? Does bamboo got problems with feedproxy.google.com? Or is it something else?

btw the feed properties inside bamboo look well

I was using Brief 1.5.4 but it no longer appears to be kept updated and is not compatible with FF 9.0.1

After switching to Bamboo and going through a small learning curve I'm really enjoying it. There are a few things I'd like to see improved but that is my personal preference. The functionality is very good.

please remove the "/fr" from links to addons.mozilla.org and let the browser decide itself which language to use.

e.g. change https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/user/4130193/ to https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/user/4130193/

err. "developer" and "make a donation" is fixed, but "discussion" still have /fr in it.

Y my extension doesn't update itself~~

I hate when this reader automatically deletes my unread items. For example, I have 100 unread items and decide to update feed - then my previous items particularly replaced by new items! This reader is very independent, but for me it's impossible to delete, update without deleting, save my unread and read items for long time etc!

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2.1-signed).  This user has a previous review of this add-on.

About deleting and saving items it has already been discussed several times.
You know that it will be added in a future version.

If you hate this reader behavior why don't you use another one ?
It seems like Google reader will meet your needs.

Very nice UI and workflow, BUT unstable.
It did crash firefox many times, last time it came back without the feeds I took a lot of time to import and manage. So 2 stars for the UI, in the hope it becomes stable for the 3 last stars.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2.1-signed).

The recent version 1.2 has a better memory usage. Previous versions were increasing too much memory usage and it can explain Firefox crash.

Once you've set up your feeds, you should export them to an OPML file.
In the case of data loss, it only takes a few seconds to recover your feeds by importing your OPML file.

Thank you for the review.

Thanks a lot for this very useful addon.

I also have a question. When I click on RSS links, I want to subscribe them with Bamboo, not with Live Bookmarks. Is there a way to do this? Thanks

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2.1-signed).

You have to open the "Add" panel and you will be able to subscribe to current browser page or to a specific feed URL.

hi, everybody! i'm using Bamboo Feed Reader for two weeks and this reader is the best reader for me in feeder add-ons. i suggest highly this add-on to everybody, you will definitely satisfy...

Great job, very useful, congratulations!!

But the layout could be lighter for a nicer view:
1. in tab mode, you could enlarge the feeds windows to the maximum of the screen
2. it's not possible to totally remove the menu bar
3. please add an option to remove the reader menu bar

Another problem is that it's impossible to open a link and stay on the current bamboo windows (even with roll clic, ctrl+clic etc..)

With these fews problems fixed on the next version, this extension would be perfect!

Thank you Julien to take these remarks into consideration, and continue on this creative way!

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.1.1.1-signed).

"1. in tab mode, you could enlarge the feeds windows to the maximum of the screen"
The feed item area must have a maximum width to ensure proper rendering of feed content (also HTML content).

"2. it's not possible to totally remove the menu bar"
Are you talking about the button on the navigation bar ?

"3. please add an option to remove the reader menu bar"
I wonder why do you want to hide this menu ?
You won't be able to use the add-on without this menu.

About links i will correct that in a future release.

plz enlarge the "list" viewing option font
its so small its almost unreadable

preferrably adjustable in the options
other then that is great

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.1.1.1-signed).

Is that the appearance is the same as in the preview images ?
(it can be due to a theme for example)

In this case i will add this option in a future release.
