Unless I'm missing something...
It doesn't sync my iCal contacts (an ICS file, which is seemingly the only format that iCal will export), so it doesn't do what it says.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I'd love for this to work. However, if this extensions doesn't support iCal, then you need to modify its description.

Very helpful indeed.

This is a great add-on, and it has solved a nightmarish problem for me.
But I have a suggestion for the auto-sync feature. Having it sync periodically (say every hour) works well for a desktop workstation that you leave on a lot. But for a laptop installation, it'd really help if there were an option to sync every time you start Thunderbird (and/or to just ask if you want to) -- And on exiting Thunderbird, check for new address-book entries and ask if you want to sync them before exiting.

This is a very useful extension and it works perfect for me. I'm synchronizing my addresses and my tasks on my Vista laptop and my office desktop running XP (the calendar is synchronized via gmail). I think that's a pretty common setup amongh people for this extension.
I've been using the extension for a few weeks and I've have had absolutely no problems so far. Everything seems to work. I do have two minor suggestions (at least I thik they are minor) for the future that would make this excellent extension even better:
1. make it possible to set it to sync automatically when I start and close TB. Ideally, make it possible to set it to overwrite from the Server when I start-up TB and from the local database when I close things down.
2. make it possible to have DIFFERENT sync schedules for addresses, tasks and the calendar. For example, I would like my tasks be synchronized automatically every time I open and close TB, but I don't need to sync my addresses this often and I would prefer to do it manually (since it does takes quite some time to sync the addresses).
Anyway, these are minor issues and overall this is an excellent extension. Many thanks!

Useless. I was looking for something to synch the calendar from imap to my local computer. This just freezes every time and didn't import a single entry.

Forever and a day, I've wanted a contact sync that did not share my private data with someone who I did not know. Finally, Niko has done it! Thanks dude.
So, how do I use the auto sync capability you state on the web page?
Thanks!
Joe Daddy
just setup synckolab for sync, set the time interval for autosync (ie. 60 to check once an hour) also check the \"hide window\" checkbox and you are good to go. once an hour synckolab will sync your configuration (you will see a progress at the bar bottom right corner)

I tried to syncronize it with gmail. But it does not work at all. If it is due to my Japanese OS, Vista Ultimate. Anyway it does not make any sense to me unfortunately.....
Though everybody can be happy thanks to this software.
actually, from the mailing list it seems that quite a few people are actually using it with gmail imap. Sorry that you gave up so fast, maybe you should take a look at the faq or the mailing list.

Five stars are hardly enough to describe the usefulness of this extension. If you write e.mails on more than one computer, it's a must-have!
Ever missed an appointment because you forgot that you entered it only on the other computer?
Fed up with taking care of two address books in parallel? Get this extension and have more fun in life! :)
I have version 1.0.0 running with Thunderbird 1.5 and 2.0. After the first sync, nothing is overwritten, you will see all entries on all machines. After deleting the double ones, you are set!
As already said, I can only recommend this extension. I did not lose contacts, no appointments disappeared -- Sync Kolab does what it is supposed to do, reliably!
Dankeschön!

I use this to automatically sync my contacts between my Windows home computer, Linux work computer and Mac laptop. It works perfectly, and the developer is extremely fast with fixing bugs. I have been searching for such a solution for a long time. Thanks!

Over the years that I have been using Sync Kolab it has continuously improved. The efforts of the author are to be commended. There were problems in the beginning that almost caused me to quit using it, but over time, most of my objections were resolved. Sync Kolab's current reliability and the availability of Lightning have made Thunderbird my primary email client.

Never able to complete a sync. I have used 2 different imap servers and different address books yet it always hangs at some point and never completes.
UPDATE: I completely removed and reinstalled. I also created a new sync folder and disabled my firewall. One of these steps fixed the problem but at this point I am not sure which one. Just completed my first sync from home/office and all appears well so I will raise my rating. Thanks.

I switched to IMAP recently for my personal email and the IMAP works great for access from multiple computers, but I had a real problem with my address book since there was no easy way to make sure mutiple computers had the same address book. Sync Kolab does exactly that. All you do is create an IMAP folder in your own account to hold the sync info, then create a sync profile that specifies which address book you want to sync to that IMAP folder. Do the same in each computer and you then have perfectly synced contacts among multiple computers.
There are still a few wrinkles as it's still pre-release, but it works and the developer is quite responsive.

Advantage over web-based address book/calendar is that one has a local copy. Version 0.5.3 is an improvement. Earlier versions sometimes deleted entries for unclear reasons.

This is a great idea.
Very simple way to sync everything.
Maybe in a few months we'll be able to sync all calendars, contacts and mail with just one imap login.

This is an excellent add-on not only for back up, but for those with multiple locations. Here is a suggested improvement: This routine seems to only back up one Address Book or Calendar, allow the selection of multiple books and calendars for those of us that have several of these.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.5.2).your suggestion is available since the 0.3.X you can specify an unlimited number of configurations, including automatic background sync
