Identity Chooser is an excellent ad-on. It works with all emails, now with the beta of version 1.4, with email addresses embedded in a web page, a document or from a contact manager.

There is a great reduced likelihood that an email will be sent from the incorrect address

Very good idea.

If I can suggest an improvement of readability, when you compose an email, the from combobox should be formated as a table to have all emails / names / accounts aligned vertically and be able to quickly match the account / email you need.

My 2 cents ;)

I tested this interesting add-on for over a month, and I found it really convenient and easy to use.

My opinion is that it comes from a great idea, that's why it works so well.

Nothing to set, nothing to learn, nothing to understand.

The software detects by itself your identities on Thunderbird and proposes colors.
The only thing you are requested to do is choose the colors that best suit your needs.
It works right away.

The assistance of the developer is really commendable, especially considering that the software is free.
I had a small problem after changing an account and I sent an email asking for help. I received a polite response after only five hours, a time much shorter than what I had to wait in the past when I asked for assistance to large companies (ie Asus and Nuance).
The answer fixed my problem.

I recommend this software to all those who use multiple email accounts.

Excellent addon and even better support.
Ran into a strange bug with the software this afternoon, within 12 hours of contacting the developer we were discussing the issue and it was resolved very quickly.

The simplicity of this addon far exceeds the complex nature of similar addons while still making it painless to manage and toggle multiple identities.

If you have more than one e-mail-accont in your Thunderbird, it is a very helpful extension. So you avoid to use a wrong mail-address, if you write one.
If there is a problem, the author helps fast.
I hope, it will be updated!

As someone who now works off of four e-mail addresses, I find this extension not only useful, but virtually necessary. I'm grateful someone finally decided to design it!

The author of the extension is quick to communicate and promptly fixed a minor bug for mac user's when informed about it.

While john2010's suggestions are intriguing, I would find that setting up the rules for such an extension would take too long, whereas this extension allows me just the right amount of hesitation and choice. Moreover, this extension does exactly what it says it does. That's worthy of five stars.

Great add on, thank you very much.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...keep it updated {please?}

I like it much better than Border Colors!

To be even more useful, the topmost (-> most used) identity in the popup menu should automatically (optionally) be already selected, so I only need to press Enter. This would save me one mouse-click or one key-press.

I have a dozen emails to communicate with different people, (and always send to the same person with the same From address,) and can't see how these colors can help me. I believe a better solution would be, the add-on automatically choose sender depending on the recipient (and the user can manually override when needed). That is, when sending an email, we fill in the To address, then the add-on automatically choose the sender. The "rules" of choosing sender from recipient can be determined by a form to fill, where one can use regular expressions or catch-all symbols.

I find this Very Useful!
I second the feature requests from Sintel for the "ability to
*change the order of the accounts in the new-list
*prevent some accounts from appearing in the new-list"

BUG: disabling the colorize feature does not remove the color from the compose window, only after thunderbird is restarted will it be gone.

Feature request: ability to
*change the order of the accounts in the new-list
*prevent some accounts from appearing in the new-list
*colorize only some accounts

Overall seems to work better for me than Identity Select, what I used before.

This plugin is not very usefull for me because it only shows the real name of the accounts. All my accounts have the same real name - only the email address is different. So I see 5 times the same name in the selection. The email address should be shown behind the real name.

The dropdown menu below the "Write" button should display the email address. If it does not then it's a bug. Please contact me directly via email so we can find the cause. You'll find the address on the right side of this page.

Excellent addon. Easily select which email account to send from. Superb support too, I had an answer to a question I had in under 2 hours.

This is a solid, reliable, needed add-on. I've sent mail from the wrong account before, but not since using Identity Chooser. I run Thunderbird 3.0.1 on Windows 7 Home Premium.

Great add-on and now it´s appearance looks nicer once you got rid of the tiny vertical bar that was placed to the left of the Write button and since I use my bars with text only, I even like the tiny arrow placed under the "write" text !!!

Fine
