Still can't mix Hebrew and English in one line.
I guess that is the holy grail
Other than that it works fine.

Great add-on. So simple to use and so useful.
With version 68.* undo (ctrl-z) does not work (only on the second email line). After disabling the add-on undo started working again.
Thanks for the hard work

Great addon but does not work on last Thunderbird, 68.0. (Linux) Need to be updated

Great work.
The only problem I have is:
My signature is in English and is multi line text.
When this add-on is active, it places my signature text in one line, which make it unreadable.
Eyal, please, help! :-)

This add-on still reverses the display direction of previously sent Thunderbird messages. Seven months ago the author of this add-on promised us a Thunderbird-compatible version. He has yet to deliver. The add-on is not even at version 1.0 yet.

I really like this add on but I have experienced a problem that I have yet to resolve. When composing an email with the default setting "left to right", an email written in English (and therefore left justified) with Hebrew insertions becomes right justified after it's sent. This appears, not only in the sent folder as right justified, but also also in the replies by my email's recipients. And no matter what I try to do to force it to be left justified it keeps going back to right justified. And this has a residual effect on punctuation which looks out of place. I believe that the recipients receive it correctly - nobody's complained. It's just the message view in Thunderbird or the "Edit Message as New" option that creates the incorrect justification. I understand that this may (or may not) be a Thunderbird problem as opposed to a BiDi Mail UI problem.

It would be perfect if it was possible to have both RTL and LTR in one message.

The line spacing option is great.

Amazing!
all i was looking for was an extension that would add the text direction buttons for when i'm writing an email.
this extension does that and so much more.
i could hardly believe it when i looked through my inbox and messages that up till now were displayed backwards suddenly started displaying correctly!
thank you so much! i don't know how i survived without this all this time...

Hi,
Thanks for a great add-on!

I have just installed it, so I cannot write a proper review, but seeing it works with mixed Hebrew/English text is already of great use for me.

I did find what I believe to be a bug though. Unfortunately I couldn't find a direct way to contact the developer a possible bug. Hopefully you will read it here:

When writing RTL message, the Tab option (moving chosen text inwards) is reversed, shown as LTR tab. It works, but confusing.

Kind regards,
Guy

Why didn't I know of BIDI before? Now I can insert English and punctuation marks in Hebrew, and it appears as it should!

One problem remains:
In general I have no problem when forwarding an email that contains Hebrew, but sometimes when I receive an email in Hebrew, and then I forward it, the Hebrew appears like this:
ª×§×™×™×, שוב ערב ×
To circumvent the problem, I copy the Hebrew from the email and paste it in my forwarded letter

As I mentioned, the problem does not occur always; only with some emails

I thought BIDI might solve this problem; it doesn't

Any suggestions?

A must for any RTL user.
The default spacing problem should defanetly be addressed and able to be changed via setting and not through config editor, but with the workaround I can live with it for now.
Great add-on!!!

I had the same issue with the "paragraph" vs. "body text" and I was about to uninstall, only to file the workaround that fixed that.

It works like charm.

Erez, adding an option to set it without going to the config editor is a good idea.

Since the last version, every new email is set to use Paragraph mode as default. (the default in Thunderbird is Body). For some reason it is stated as a feature in the change log. I find it very annoying and there's no way to change it other than uninstalling the add-on which is what I just did. FYI

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.6).

I assume you're more annoyed by the spacing issue than by the paragraph mode - as without paragraph mode you can't set per-paragraph direction.

The spacing should not increase by default, this is a bug: https://www.mozdev.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=24380
(possibly even not my own bug, although I can't tell yet)

You can avoid this behavior by setting
bidiui.mail.compose.alternative_enter_behavior
to false in Tools|Options|Config Editor

It's a great, and important, add-on but the last version has an annoying change, every new email, or a reply, is, automatically, set to paragraph. If there is something that I hate, and that a developer should never do, is a forced and unchangeable defaults!
Due to this change I uninstalled this add-on.
