I inadvertently upgraded to Thunderbird 38.1.0 and LOST my Extra Folder Columns add-on. Comments and reviews are confusing: some say the function is built in, but following the directions does NOT WORK. Other reviews say "it doesn't work with TB38.1.0." Help me understand the reality! If built in please give instructions that work. If it isn't built in and a revised version of Extra Fiolder Columns add-on is requried, will there be an upgrade and an estimated date, or am I stuck with the less functional TB38.1.0!

In Thunderbird 38.1.0, Folder Pane Columns is a built-in feature.
If you run with the traditional menu bar (selections at the very top of the window), the option is View | Layout | Folder Pane Columns .
If you use the application menu (an icon of three horizontal lines near the upper right of the window), the option is Options | Layout | Folder Pane Columns .
In some localizations, it might be Preferences | Layout | Folder Pane Columns .
But note that under the application menu, the Layout option is *not* under View.

I loved this addon, been using it for several years but since updating Thunderbird to version 38.1.0, this addon has been disabled because it's not compatible with that version. Will there be a new version soon? One that works with the latest version of Thunderbird?

There is no "Options" menu. The way to get the extra column to appear is using the View menu .. View...Layout .. and then check Folder Pane Columns. And thanks to those who noted this issue.

Yes, Extra Folder Columns is built in now, but in order to enable it you must modify with config editor the key
mail.folderpane.showColumns and set to true
ARB suggests to go to Options -> Layout -> click Folder Pane Columns but the option does not exist.

ARB and Unknownhtml said that tb 38.0.1 has Extra Folder Columns built in.
Great, but I can't find it in mine Dutch version.
Not under options and not under view, if mine translation is correct.

It's nice that it's built in now (although maybe I preferred the add-in's layout? Just me..). Here's how to enable it:
Options -> Layout -> click Folder Pane Columns
Then you can customize it at will.

I have used this since it was first published and will miss it but this functionality is now built into v38.x.
Go to View - layout - Folder Pane Columns and select -
Exactly like this add-on now just built back in...finally!!!
You will need to enable the MENU bar to see VIEW and select from there if you are using windows. I haven't checked out Mac options yet but will test on VM and report back later.
You do NOT need to enter any config editor option to enable.

The following is not true -- there is a config setting called "mail.folderpane.sumSubfolders" which defaults to "true", when set to false it gives exactly what EFC gave me before, perfect!
This was my previous report, it's invalid now:
I hope the author will make an update (or adjusts the version) so the add-on can be installed on Thunderbird 38.1 -- I know that you can add folder columns natively in TB now but here you can only choose the "number of unread messages" or the "number of total messages" (including subfolders) -- but I need the number of "messages in the top level folders" (no matter if read or unread), my subfolders are all archives while the toplevel folders are "active". Thunderbird misses that value while EFC had it...

Thank you Joey Minta for one of the best add-ons to Thunderbird!
I used it religiously and had it installed on 100s of my clients/friends [for I can't remember how many versions of Thunderbird but at least 15 releases] as a way to get them to curb and be aware of their mounting emails!
Anytime you're thinking of making a new Add-On - give me a shout and i'll beta test it!
Cheers,
Emmanuel.

Thanks for this plugin. As of TB38 this is incorporated into main functionality again, which was missing since TB2. It took many years to do that.

Will it ever be adjusted for Thunderbird v38.0.1?
Nevermind, I just checked for the fix:
Set check mark on "View/Layout/Folder Pane Columns" and normal operation will return.

This addon is not available for Thunderbird 38.0.1. :-(

Устанавливать это дополнение в Thunderbird 38+ уже не требуется, оно встроено в программу. А для того, чтобы заработало, нужно зайти в меню Вид - Разбивка окна и установить галочку на "Колонки панели папок". Вуаля! :)
