I managed to get it to work for 3.0 by updating the install.rdf files and changing the Mozilla Thunderbird maxversion to 3.0. then re-zip the files/dir up and install. owner should probably update the official copy.

Well, I can't edit my previous post; I'll have to post again, so ignore my post just below.
@Crazytester:
1. That method only works if you copied text first, and then pasted into the search box. It does NOT work if you manually input text into the search box, then middle-click the magnifying glass--it creates a search problem (e.g., 'mozillamozilla')--as I mentioned in my first post.
2. I middle-click on the magnifying glass because I want to open my search in a new tab straight away, instead of having to open a new tab first, then have to left-click the magnifying glass (or press enter)--it requires an extra step.

@Crazytester: I'm more used to inputting text first, then opening up a new tab with middle-click. But thanks, this way works too.

Does anyone know how to make it so that when you middle-click the magnifying glass button in firefox's search box, it won't paste the autocopied text? I find it really annoying to have the same text come out again, e.g., "mozillamozilla". I hope you guys can help. Thanks in advance.
(P.s. I tried contacting the developer, but his email and homepage forum don't work so I don't know where else to ask for help.)

Completely new review (after the one I did on 2008-06-18):
Still a great addon. Bug 19354 (incorrect cursor position after middle-click) -- https://www.mozdev.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=19354 -- no longer occurs. But I reported bug 19353 (when reselecting the same text, nothing is copied to the clipboard) -- https://www.mozdev.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=19353 -- more than a year ago with a patch, and it is still not fixed.
Also, auto-copying from the address bar still doesn't work.
Zeus Swe, I don't understand your comment concerning the search box. That's true there's a problem, though. I currently need to do the following:
1. Copy the search text to the clipboard.
2. Left-click in the search box.
3. Type [Backspace] to clear the current text.
4. Middle-click in the search box to paste the text copied in Step 1.
It would be great if one could skip Step 3.
