Very useful! I just wish a fixed horizontal and vertical relative position to Thunderbird's window...
in order to avoid the notes position independent from the thunderbird's window size.
Thank you.

Simple, but great. Some room for improvement. Should work as well for Lightning.

I'm using just one email account in many persons with different pc but I don't have a server or a disk on line .... Your Idea is the best but How can I use it on all pc with my colleghe of work?
Why the notes aren't send with email?
Thanks I hope to improve my and Thunderbird works with your add-on Thanks

I did it and it's work very well thanks a lot

Just read a comment of someone who uses Dropbox to synchronize the notes. This most probably requires to manually specify the storage path in the XNote options.

Nice and useful add-on!Maybe for further improvement:- when switching to another screen (within Thunderbird), while that particular message still selected, the note keeps visible. As a matter of fact, while I'm writing this posting, the note still is visible in this window (a separate Tab)- when adjusting width and hight to a smaller appearance, the text runs out of space en the right part of it disappearing.

Sticky notes are a gamechanger and thankfully someone stepped up and kept them alive! WTG!

Thank you for developing and keeping this useful addon up to date. It helps me so much in reading news in Thunderbird.

Lack of support for XNote was one of three reasons for me to stick to TB 2.x. It's only been a few weeks since I was at last able to switch to the third generation. So just a big 'Thank you' for keeping this small, fine and immensely useful add-on up to date.

Very handy addon, really.
I miss:
- scrolling with mail
- ask for confirm when deleting note
- preview in balloon when mouse over note icon in mail listing

But very thanks anyway! Michal

Ein Anwendung, die ich wirklich oft und gerne benutze. Sehr nützlich, um mal kurz eine Notiz zu einer Mail zu schreiben.

Awesome, I've been wanting this exact thing for some time. In outlook I had to make due with their "follow up" flags and making notes there, but they were more limited in how much I could write. This leaves more room for notes. The only improvements I can think of are the ability to leave more than one note on an e-mail. If I have a note stuck to one now and click the XNote button again it just goes to the note I've already got posted. Also, it'd be cool if the note actually "stuck", so that when you scroll the note scrolls with the e-mail.

These are both minor quibbles, and am delighted to have this add-on in it's current form.

Exactly what I was looking for. click on an email and up pops the note I had written giving me more info about why I saved it. You know feature requests could go on and on but this one is just fine as it stands.

It would be WONDERFUL and VERY Useful to be able to read the first one or two lines of existing xnotes by simply mousing-over an xnote's icon. Such a feature would mean: No need to actually open an email message just to see the contents of a previously created xnote! What a Boon THAT would be. I'd pay for it!

Note: I've been using xnote for over a year, and the above is my ONLY complaint. XNote is very useful already, but I submit to you that the suggested change would make it GREAT! (It would be esp helpful for notes over a few months old.)

Version 2.3.4b1 allows to configure to show the first X characters in the XNote column. This should be a comparable feature. You have to install it from the beta channel until the final version 2.3.4 will be released.

Thank you for keeping this add-on updated. I wish I'd known before about the sandbox.

A good usable add-on that allows you to keep free-format notes with any email.

Using XNote on Thunderbird 3.1.5.XNotes is working, but causing Thunderbird to crash when I click Display Message Threads in the inbox view. I have tried this 4 or 5 times and it crashes every time. Has anyone else seen this behavior? If not for this fatal flaw, I would give it 5 stars because it is so useful.
Follow Up: Disabled add on, restarted TBird, enabled add on, restarteded TBird, and it works fine. This is a handy add on.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.2.1).

Using XNote 2.2.1 on Thunderbird 3.1.5 and cannot reproduce this issue.

Does Thunderbird still crash, if you uninstall all other add-ons? If no, XNote should not be the cause.
Does Thunderbird still crash, if you uninstall all add-ons? If yes, XNote should not be the cause.
This way you could iteratively try to find out which of the add-ons or which combination of add-ons causes the problem.
Can you reproduce the issue with a clean Thunderbird profile? (For this, create a new profile -- see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_manager -- copy the "Mail/Local_Folders/Inbox" file from your old Thunderbird profile to you new profile while Thunderbird is closed, and start up with the new Thunderbird profile.)

Please, don't post the answers (as well as bug reports) here. Rather send me an e-mail -- see http://www.froihofer.net/xnote/ for details. There is no possibility for discussion here.

Excellent add on - is there any way that it can be used on an imap system so all users of shared email accounts can see the notes? Thanks.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.2.1).

In order to share your notes with other users (or access them by yourself on a different PC), you can store the notes on a shared network drive (WebDAV, Windows Share / Samba, NFS -- anything you can mount on your operating system) and configure the xnote.storage_path property accordingly. See http://www.froihofer.net/xnote/ for details.

I love this extension, thank you for porting it to TB3. :-)

For those of you who have unreadable white text on the yellow notes (e.g. due to a Thunderbird theme like PitchDark, which uses white font color), I figured out a fix.

Add the following to your userChrome.css file (in TB's profile folder (see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird for info on that), there in the subfolder chrome - create file and folder if necessary):

/* Xnote - set text color to black */
.boite-de-texte, #titre
{
color: black !important;
}

This will set all text in the notes boxes to black.

Hope that helps.
R.

Very useful extension!
Works fine for me and (with Version 2.2.1) improves communication on a shared e-mail system (like e.g. scalix) connected to thunderbird!
