I think it's an excellent add-on, thank you!

As the author says this is a proof of concept i think it is a brilliant concept and has been proved, I await the release of the official addon. if i was a coder i would help with its development.

Compose is a great idea but.........
For To: cc: and bcc: It looks at recent emails instead of address book and only gives a few options. It ignores display names.
When you reply to an email or forward - the default editor loads instead of Compose.
This has been "experimental" for much too long. Either finish it or give it up !!!!!!

I love Thunderbird but the editor is (to be kind) poor at best. I have been waiting soo long for this addition which really adds the missing functionality. I agree with most of the other comments and hope the few glitches are fixed in the future but for now I am happy to work around them just to get a full function message editor. I would gladly pay for this add-in (I don't say that often !).

Thanks mozjonathan.

Thanks for developing this addon. A lot of users will love the ability to compose a new message in a tab.
To keep things simple: why not use the native thunderbird editor? In my eyes composing messages in a tab is a killer feature but it seems the CKEditor is a good editor but problematic in this context. Maybe there is a way to let the user choose between one or the other?
Again, thanks for your effort, keep going!

Add on seems to work fine for me, sending with attachments went through and copied to sent folder. Would love to see a black/dark theme for the compose window as I work in thunder bird a lot at night.

As for Nostalgy interfering I changed its hotkey to file as suggested: `, move to: *, etc and I also used the add on Key Config to disable thunderbird default keys that would interfere. (this workaround works with the Conversations add on too.

First of all, Thank you for awesome extension.
However, It have two problems.

1) No put the signature in mail.
2) Can't write a mail contens because interference with Nostalgy(another extension) keboard shortcut. It is due to compose in new tab embeded all another extensions.
Solving suggestion: Open in new window without another extensions when I compose mail.

I hope, this extension grow up to main editor in thunderbird.

I've been using Thunderbird since 2005 and have always wondered why the composing options were so limited. Oftentimes I write my emails in OpenOffice, LibreOffice, or even MS Word before pasting them in Thunderbird. Compose for Thunderbird goes a long way towards bringing Thunderbird on par with those writing applications. This add-on still needs work, more features, and the ability to modify it; but overall it is a very awesome add-on -- especially for only being version 0.2. Thank you mozjonathan!

Looks good.
But when I hit SEND, nothing happens.
Also the RETURN RECEIPT button is gone.
Thanks.

Doesn't support Enigmail nor OpenPGP cypher add-ons.
Fonts are supported on Windows only (may be nor there).
Meaningless features like "buttons" due to unfinished code...
This plug-in is an early alpha release from the user's point of view.
Please be serious and forget Windows when programming on Mozilla add-ons.

Add-on includes lots of nice features to help format mail, and I understand that it's still considered experimental. Couple of issues that led to my disabling for now (some of these have been mentioned by other reviewers):
- Can't get signature info to display even though the account info includes
- HTML for a non-breaking space is displaying (  ) -- you don't see in compose, but recipients see and the code shows in the Send copy.
Keep up the good work -- I'm very much looking forward to re-activating at some point. Yes, I, too, would LOVE a format painting option.

This is a great add-on, having very good and simple ui. But I am missing few thing here,
1. Signature: I have enabled signature, but with this addon signature is not inserting when I am composing mail. Please add support to signature that will help a lots.
2. I have enabled send in background. But with this add-on this is also not working. Please have some look in this issue.
3. Also when I am clicking any email link, the old editor is opening instead the new one.
I understand this is only experimental release and it has to go a lot way to be finalized. And I hope this thing will be there int the final release.
I am using ubuntu 11.04 with thunderbird 5.0 and version of add-on is 0.2.
Once again thanks a lot to author.

It will be really nice to have format painter. I think current version doen't have it. It is very much desirable.

This is a legendary facelift for TB! I went for a test drive and was very, very pleased (thanks!)

However, am disabling it for now, since it has no support for the following functions: (1) Delivery Status Notification; and (2) the Mailmerge addon. I know you're focusing on the 7 items in your bug kill list, but I hope you can somehow factor these in.

I wish it didn't deviate so severely from the OS theme. I'm not sure if that was intentional or just easier because it's a proof of concept. Really I'd just like the normal composition window to be a tab, but the GMail-like address fields are nice.

I generally like the idea, however I think it needs some heavy UI polishing.
The to, cc and bcc fields are to large. I would be nice if they had the same size as the subject field (I know it's hard to do that because of the way the emails are styled, which I like, but they're definitely too big). They look great on large screens as they are now, but most of the users don't have large screens. Also the form field should have the same styling as the other fields. Since cc and bcc are not used all the time, it would be great if they were hidden at the beginning, and enabled with two buttons 'add cc' and 'add bcc' like in gmail.
The three buttons (save, send, discard) look really odd alone on one line... maybe you could move them on top? I also don't like the buttons in the attachment pane, and I really like the way the attachment pane looks by default in thunderbird.
What disturbs me the most is the use of the MCE. There are too many buttons on too many lines. Why on Earth would I need to embed flash or forms in an email? The MCE should be only on one line only. You could include what commands are available in the extension options (I personally like the Source button, but I don't think that there are many who would use it).

This extension has promise. I like the look and feel better than the default composition window. I especially like the modifications to the To, CC, and BCC boxes to make them work more similarly to any other mail client I use (gmail and Outlook).

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.2pre).
