Thanks for reply. Sorry, Realised after I shouldn't post bugs here. Have re-downloaded XPI several times. Recent new clean profile, no other errors or problems. Not really worth new profile at this time. Can manage with US dictionary. I know you will respond if anyone else has this problem. Thanks.

This dictionary is perfect. It does not misspell words. People that are getting errors haven't chosen "English-British" under 'Languages' in the right-click menu. Spell checking defaults to 'US-English'. Even after this is installed, British needs to be selected.

I've been through 15 pages of reviews now and checked the negative reviews and I I am disappointed by the 1 Star reviews dragging the average score down. Of all the words that were claimed either missing or wrong words, I couldn't verify a single claim.

Also, the 1 Star reviews that dismiss the product immediately because it didn't install or work for you - Look at the hundreds of other working reviews and realise, it's not the plugin, it must be your computer. And for those using beta FF software versions, please realise that not all your plugins re going to be instantly available for your in-development release. Incidentally, none of you seem to understand about incompatibility between extension and release version. Do you actually think that the plugin architecture changes so fundamentally between each release , that it breaks every extension. Of course not, think of Photoshop, Cubase or any other program that features plugins. To update a plugin, pretty much the only thing that needs altering is an internal number that lists the compatible versions. Yep, that's it! And it drives developers insane, constantly having to tweak a couple numbers to get the extension to work. This is why Firefox, in an upcoming release) is ditching Version Numbers altogether. This has annoyed a lot of people, but they aren't looking the big picture. Of course, there must be an (as yet unannounced) other way to determine if your release of Firefox/Thunderbird etc. But this will save so much developer time, users complaining about failing extensions and inaccurate revuew ratings.

Please bear all this in mind when casting your vote.

This has really gotten worse over the past few months as it really misspells simple words, does not recognize basic English poor average add on and not to be depended on or trusted.

Just editing this negative review saying it doesn't work.
I managed to miss this for an embarrassingly long period of time: If you still get US spellings after installing this dictionary right click any in text box, click, select "English / United Kingdom".
Then enjoy typing colour properly to your hearts content.

OK, so I'm grateful for a free dictionary, but "organise" in a textbox is suggested as "organize", which I'm sure looks fine to the Americans reading this, but it stands out like a sore thumb to us Brits.

It works fine for a free add-on. If you can't get it to work, simply reload the application like you have to do for all add-ons. I wish this came as standard with T-bird and Firefox.

it couldn't sort out 'statement' misspelt, but anything is better than the googl dictionary- it's creper than crepe

This is not a British English dictionary. Many spellings only in US English. Many standard words are missing.

It works well for me but I would like to be able to turn off checking of words with only upper case characters

ok, but needs more additions. How can a dictionary not have a common word like debacle?

Sorry this is not actually a review, but when I click the "See the support section to find out where to get assistance for this add-on" it simply redirects to the review page... & if i click on support it 'logs me out' refuses to acknowledge my password, or send me a reset, so my options are really limited and my tolerance levels to zero at this time. So to summarise this previously fantastic add on stopped working for me the second FF forced an update on me to v5. I've used this previously for several years without a problem and getting frustrated enough to stop using FF completely. I've tried selecting British dictionary in options etc and nothing works. It's currently telling me centre is spelled center, and theatre, theater. I've used this previously for several years without a problem and getting frustrated enough to stop using FF completely.

OK, I got it working after a while. It was using the dictionaries file from Program Files (they were US English for some reason) and not the British English files from AppData/Roaming/Mozilla.

Never mind! Good addon! :-)

It works very well and is easy to use it. It works the same way that the most common word processors do.
