I'm also a fan of UnPlug but until there is a version that does not require tweaking its files, I highly recommend that folks look into 'Fast Video Download', a Firefox extension which is presently updated for Firefox 3.0.2. It's almost as good as UnPlug, INMNSHO.

It's a shame this extension is not developed anymore. It's useful and unobtrusive.

Does this work for 3.02? The notice for upgrade said that the update would disable it.

I am a limited user on Windows XP. I have FF3.0.1.
Adminiatrator doesn't have Firefox.
Flash PlugIn can be installed only by administrator.
So, until administrator wishes to install Firefox, I cannot have Flash PlugIn installed.
Your UnPlug says Flash isn't necessary for YouTube?
But YouTube will not even try to show video without this plugin and your UnPlug will have nothing to catch.
Could you help me to download a video from YouTube with your Add-on?
Best Regards.

>somebody should /really/ ask the original author to give someone else
>access to the code (from mozdev), and patch all this stuff officially! :-P

The code is GPL'd so there's no explicit need to ask (although it would be nice as a courtesy to the original author). All you'd need to do is add a new mozdev item, say "UnPlug+", post a note here to say you've added it for people looking for the updated version, and take it from there.

I took the "ff3 updated" version from lummox.wz.cz, and ADDITIONALLY patched it to have filenames prepend the page title (when you click the Save(-as) button) -- especially for sites like youtube where ALL the videos are named "get_video" -- now the filenames will default to something like "Youtube - Important video-get_video.flv". Very useful ;) I also got rid of the "Coral cache" link, since the service seems to be dead now?

As scriggin said, somebody should /really/ ask the original author to give someone else access to the code (from mozdev), and patch all this stuff officially! :-P

The author has indicated (see http://unplug.mozdev.org/installation.html) that he won't have time to update UnPlug any more, and as a result we're seeing a flood of third-party versions at random external sites. How about one of the people who've made updates takes over the existing UnPlug project, name it something like UnPlug+ to let people know it's a new/updated version, and give it its own page on mozilla.org. Then it'd become part of the mozilla auto-update and checking process rather than requiring googling and manual install for everyone who wants to use it.

I've dug around in UnPlug's code and I think I fixed everything that didn't work in Firefox 3. You can download the modified version here: http://lummox.wz.cz/misc/unplug.html

The modded version only half works..when u activate it, it only shows text..where the graphics where in the FF2 version, it says cache disabled..FF3 is much better than FF2, but when will a fully functional Unplug extension be available?!
