Great add-on !
Unfortunately v1.6pre is not working with TB15.

I did a quick and dirty fix to make it compatible with the latest Thunderbird version.

Contacts Sidebar will quickly become an indispensable Add-on, placing Address Book access and features in a sidebar on TB's main window. I configured mine to display contacts, along with their mobile, home & biz phone numbers in columns. You can adjust the spacing between columns to make the sidebar compact. Double clicking on a contact will open a new Message Window, adding another means, and making it that much more convenient to write new email to your contact.

Unfortunately, this Add-on has not been updated on this page for some time, and for some unknown reason. The Add-on is alive and well on the authors web page in the form of "Pre-releases".

I would certainly encourage the author to place an update here on the official Add-on page.

In Thunderbird 14.0, double-clicking on a name in the sidebar doesn't open the composition window anymore. :-(

I loved this add-on and resisted upgrading TB for a long time, hoping it would be updated. I finally gave in and now I have to do without my Contacts Sidebar. That makes me sad.
I don't think Mozilla should list this as a "featured" add-on anymore, since they are relentless in their goal of having all users on the newest version of their software.

I have install contact sidebar 1.4pre at TB10.But I can't found contact sidebar option.Please fix it.

One of the best extensions, I find it highly important and helpful! I really hope Mozilla fixes the compatibility problems. Annoying! Not only for this extension and not only for TB!

On the authors home page (http://extensions.sanjer.nl/index.php?page=tb_cs_prerelease) can now be found version 1.4pre which is fully compatible with TB9...works great...nice job!

Love this add on, but not compatible with TB 9.
Appears to work if you do the following: (keep in mind that this technique tells TB that Contacts Sidebar is compatible. No guarantee that it actually is):

1. Download the add on to your download folder as you normally would
2. Change the extension from .xpi to .zip (you will get a warning -- allow the change)
3. Unzip the zip folder
4. Open the file install.rdf
5. Move the cursor to the extreme right off the page and change the <em:maxVersion>8.9.*</em:maxVersion>
to <em:maxVersion>9.0.*</em:maxVersion>
6. Save the file install.rdf. and exit
7. Change the extension name back to .xpi.
8. Install into TB as usual from Add On menu

I wish Contacts Sidebar was part of Thunderbird or Jeroen had more time to make compatible version with every new release of TB. Contacts Sidebar 1.3pre is not compatible with Thunderbird 9.0.1. :-/ I'll make a donation if it is functional.

This is an obsolete extension. In last versions of Thunderbird (> 6) doesn't work.
