Echoing others: I can't believe this is not an in-built feature we can enable (or indeed that would be enabled by default).

Let me add also that for those fearing the "permissions" it requires (including ability to "read your email"), you can view the source of these extensions. This one is a few lines of very simple code, doing SOLELY the marking of the message as it's being opened (whether set to be opened in a tab or a window or even the "existing message window" option).

There is no "reading" of your emails at all, nor any call out to elsewhere nor storing anything anywhere (based on the current 1.0.2 version, as I look at it). As for such a low number of users, I wonder if the count resets when a new version is made available.

The same points above are true as well of the extension this one is based on, "Mark Read on Reply" (as indicated in the readme), and I will go add this same sort of review/comment to that one.

As another said, I cannot believe that an add-on is required for this..... And it works when the setting is to open in separate windows also, not only for tabs :-)

This feature/add-on is mandatory for me!

Mark read with double click feature should be default feauture at Thunderbird, but it is not. Thanks to this add-on, it is now evailable. It is mandatary for me to use this feauture. Otherwise i open some emails wrongly and than i miss them. With this feauture i mark the emails as read, only when i double click them. Thank you.

This was the one behavior that drove me crazy about Thunderbird. I almost came to the conclusion that I'd have to move to something else.

I can't believe this isn't the default behavior of Thunderbird.
