File Bug Report

From Mozilla non-browser applications, FileBugReport opens a new bug report page for the appropriate product and fills the build-identifier field. Benefits:

• Testers reporting bugs will appreciate not having to (remember to) find the build-identifier and then cut and paste it into the report.
• Triagers confirming bugs will appreciate receiving reports with the correct product and build-identifier for the buggy system, making it easier to reproduce the problem.

After successful installation and application restart:

• Thunderbird: The Tools menu now contains "File Thunderbird Bug Report". Invoking it opens your browser at the Mozilla Bugzilla site, on the Thunderbird guided enter-bug page, with the build-id field filled with Thunderbird's navigator.userAgent string.

• Thunderbird: The Tools menu now contains "File Lightning Bug Report". Invoking it opens your browser at the Mozilla Bugzilla site, on the Calendar guided enter-bug page, with the build-id field filled with Thunderbird's navigator.userAgent string.

• Sunbird: The Tools menu now contains "File Sunbird Bug Report". Invoking it opens your browser at the Mozilla Bugzilla site, on the Calendar guided enter-bug page, with the build-id field filled with Sunbird's navigator.userAgent string.

As always, be sure to search previous bug reports for the problem you've discovered before deciding to file a new bug report on that problem. It may save you the time it will take to write up a detailed report on how to reproduce the problem, and save you the disappointment of having your report marked 'duplicate'.

Known issues:

File Lightning Bug Report appears in Thunderbird even if Lightning is not installed. If it bothers you, you can try hiding it by adding the following to chrome/userChrome.css in your profile directory:
#FileBugReport-Lightning-file-report-item { display: none; }

This extension does not install into Firefox. Browsers like Firefox do not need this extension because the enter-bug web page can continue to fill the build-id field using the userAgent string from the browser.

File Bug Report opens your browser at bugzilla.mozilla.org on the guided bug entry form with a URL that pre-fills the build-id field with the Thunderbird or Sunbird navigator.userAgent string. You will see the value of this field in the form, where you can edit it before you submit your bug report to be stored in the bugzilla database. It may contain information about the version of Thunderbird, Lightning, or Sunbird, and may also contain information about other add-ons that add themselves to the userAgent string.
