It's been working fine, but for a few weeks now, attachments opened in the Thunderbird window are saved with the name "document.(extension)" and if downloaded from the message window, they do so as a file with no content (size = 0 bits). They only download correctly if you download all the attachments at once.

Unfortunately this was a Thunderbird bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1978213

Thunderbird has now fixed it. It was not possible for Conversations to work around it.
