Quicktext

To _*all*_ those users who are still having problems with this extension: I cannot too much stress how important it is for you to follow the advice below.
You really should very carefully read the
"Quicktext > Support & Help > Quicktext on Thunderbird 45" and
"Quicktext > Bug Reporting > Quicktext doesn't work after updating to thunderbi"
topics in the forum on the extension's "Add-on home page", for which a link can be found on the top(pish) righthand side of the main AMO (this site) page for this QuickText extension.
And, for heaven's sake, in future, please read other reviews properly before posting your "reviews" with unnecessarily despairing moans in them. Also, always check an extension's "Add-on home page" and "Support Site" (usually the forums or bug reports there) before complaining of supposedly terminal problems.
This is a truly invaluable extension, allowing you, at the click of a button, to insert, wherever you wish in the body of, and/or elsewhere in an email, any text items (templates) you have predefined. These text items may include embedded "variables" which will, at time of insertion, be replaced by specific information taken from various places including existing items in the mail being composed, address book entries, date/time information, names of attachments, clipboard contents and more. Other "variables" include directives such as cursor positioning.
At composition time, most of the variables can themselves also be dynamically called up (by clicking menu items) to have their current values inserted at the current position in the email.
The extension is apparently, unsurprisingly, one of the very most popular for Thunderbird users.
Unfortunately, the current problem with Thunderbird 45.0 and QuickText templates has prevented many users from updating to TB45.0.
We are all hoping that the extension author will soon be able to provide an updated version of QuickText so users here may easily update and then advance to TB45.0 and beyond.
Such affected users really should very carefully read the

@BillyDick To obtain a list of a particular type of add-on (such as plugins), first display that type in the Add-ons Manager (tab, sidebar or window) and then press the 'Dump List' button above the display or in the dropdown menu you have been using.
It only dumps the list of what is currently displaying in the Add-ons Manager.
It's that simple to use.

Dorando keyconfig
Рейтинг 5 из 5 звёзд
Now, like Dorando's original Keyconfig extension, this latest version of 'Dorando Keyconfig' allows you to create new keyboard shortcuts and supply and edit your own javascript for them.
You can also remove ('reset') them or change the keyboard combinations they use.
Using it, you can also:
disable or re-enable existing shortcuts (including many of those which you have not yourself created - but not those created by the system, such as, for instance, Ctrl+C for 'Copy' in Windows)
change the keyboard key combinations used by existing shortcuts (including many of those which you have not yourself created - but not those created by the system, such as, for instance, Ctrl+C for 'Copy' in Windows)
define shortcuts to override (replace) many pre-existing shortcuts you have not yourself created, thus changing the effect of those key combinations. You may have to explicitly disable the pre-existing ones to make that work.
When I tested this version (2016.2), IN FIREFOX, I started from the latest version (20110522) of Dorando's own original Keyconfig extension and, carefully following trlkly's advice (see 'About this.." above) replaced it with 'Dorando Keyconfig' 2016.2.
After installation was complete (I had re-started Firefox) all the new shortcuts I had previously created (along with my own javascript) using keyconfig 20110522 were still present, in the same state (active or disabled) and active ones were still working.
Those shortcuts which I had not created but which I had disabled were still disabled.
I was then able to edit my own shortcuts (keys and/or javascript), create and remove my own shortcuts and disable and re-enable shortcuts as expected.
I was also able to disable and re-enable shortcuts I had not created and change their keyboard key combinations (but, as described above, not for those created directly by the operating system).
Like the original, 'Dorando Keyconfig' lists existing keyboard shortcuts and the listing can be sorted by name, key combination or shortcut ID.
It does not fill the error log with "Type error" messages, which the original did.
It does also incorporate Morat's informative colour coding enhancement in the shortcut listing.
Hopefully, as a very welcome publicly listed and AMO-approved extension, 'Dorando Keyconfig' will long continue to provide all the functions which keyconfig 20110522 so helpfully gave us.
Thank you very much, trlkly, for all your efforts to make this new listed version available with all its functions enabled.
Dorando keyconfig
Рейтинг 4 из 5 звёзд
Firstly, a shamefaced apology to anyone who read my previous review. I took the developer's description to mean that all Dorando's original functions had been retained, allowed my delight to run away with me and only made cursory checks to verify the description. I'm very sorry and I hope I never again make such an error. "Trust no-one" (least of all yourself).
I should, in all fairness, say that the developer, trlkly, has been in contact with me and pointed out this misunderstanding and shortfall on my part.
So now:
Sadly, this extension is not a slightly updated version of Dorando's tool, neither does it "Keep all your old settings".
It does not permit you to supply your own javascript either for your own new keyboard shortcuts or to replace code associated with existing shortcuts.
It removed all the enabled new shortcuts I had created along with my own javascript, although it did leave those items, renamed, in prefs.js. Perhaps those could be picked up again if ever this function is re-enabled as in the original Keyconfig.
It does list existing keyboard shortcuts and the listing can be sorted by name, key combination or shortcut ID.
It does not fill the error log with "Type error" messages, which the original did.
It does incorporate Morat's informative colour coding in the shortcut listing.
However since, for me and, I believe, many others, the most valuable function of Keyconfig was to allow users to provide new code for new and existing shortcuts to invoke, this solution can only be seen as a step on the way.
Given that major factor, I did not test the facilities to alter key combinations or disable shortcuts.
As is, it could perhaps be seen as a valuable partner for the excellent 'Menu Wizard' which is also signed and publicly listed and _does_ allow shortcuts to be created and edited with user code, (providing they are associated with new or existing menu items) but whose shortcut listing facility is not yet very user friendly.
Given that, currently, the only AMO signed alternative I know which has all the original Keyconfig functions is not publicly listed on AMO, I might eventually use 'Dorando Keyconfig' alongside 'Menu Wizard'
I can only rate 'Dorando Keyconfig' at three stars but would give it four if the description was changed throughout to make clear that it does not include the important javascript facilities of Dorando's original.
Again, sorry for my original gross lapse in not waking up enough to test it properly.
EDIT: Thanks for your reply. I've emailed you with more information. With your amended description, I've changed my rating
Menu Wizard
Рейтинг 5 из 5 звёзд
Thank you very much for this excellent extension, which I have for some time been using instead of 'Menu Editor'. I find it powerful, elegant, user friendly and very useful.
I'm already using the latest feature and have added six new menu items to a submenu in the 'Tools' menu. They all work as expected.
My wish list? It would be nice to be able to add keyboard shortcuts to menu items which do not yet have any.
[Edit] Thanks very much for your reply and the subsequent test version, which solves my particular problem. For any others affected by this problem, look forward to the next version after 3.04.[/Edit]

Der_Orso: I am not Iceberg and her/his extension is not mine.
You said you were looking for Extension List Dumper 2 and could not find it. Since you already knew the name, the fact that you found its function was not obvious from its name doesn't seem relevant. But I suppose you believed you were addressing a comment to Iceberg who simply followed the original name of this extension, which was, and is, well known to many of us.
In this country, depending on the context, text may be enclosed in either single or double quotes (otherwise known as 'inverted commas'), and in such context we do not call them apostrophes.
I am glad that you have been able to find Extension List Dumper 2 and are now using it. Your review gave it high marks although, despite the fact I suspect you find it extremely useful, you did not mention any of its good features nor make any positive comment about it. People stay up at night to give us these goodies so when they work for us, as ELD 2 does, why not at least mention that?
..and just a repeat for other hopefuls:
Try typing just 'dumper' (without quotes) in the AMO search box.and look carefully at the drop-down list which appears. Then click on the line showing Extension List Dumper 2.
I have no problem seeing it that way.
However, the new version, 'Extension List Dumper 2', of which I told you, DOES work..
Iceberg has produced a corrected revival of this extension, which is officially on AMO and signed!

nknm: Now that you point it out, yes, I also see that problem with printing and I hope it can be corrected.
However, don't you think that perhaps your single star is a bit harsh for one broken function?**
This extension can be invoked - its button in Add-ons Manager is functional.
It does display all the requested information as specified.
The settings to control the information displayed work as expected and
The variety of information available for each add-on is valuable.
It is possible, in the 'Options', to specify one's own default values for those settings.
A button allows one to save the entire display to a file of one's own choosing. This does work.
**As a temporary circumvention of the printing problem, one could do that and then print the file.
A button allows one to copy the entire display to the clipboard. This, also, does work and, for example, allows one to easily copy the information to a spreadsheet.
.
One can also select, and copy to the clipboard, any chosen area of the display, which I find very useful for updating change control files.
As far as I know, there is no other extension on AMO which both works at all (let alone to this extent) and also provides such a wealth of useful functions. You can use it for your requirements and if you know of anything else which can do do that at all then please tell us.
The only remotely similar working things I know of are 'Nightly tester Tools' and 'InfoLister' which, although very useful for many, provide much simpler listings and much more limited options. I'm not even sure that InfoLister is still usable on FF40.*
It is also very important to understand that Iceberg, unlike others, took the trouble to work out how to mend the original totally broken ELD and to now provide this very useful and usable signed fork of itl on AMO for all of us.
I think the printing problem might be quite a small thing to fix. Perhaps you could work out what it needs and let Iceberg know? If I had the brain, I would try that.

Is the download faulty?
Folderpane Tools
Рейтинг 5 из 5 звёзд
@franc
Sorry, you have misunderstood the meaning of 'Start Folder'.
It is not the top folder in the list.
It is the one which is always focused on Thunderbird startup. Its content is therefore always displayed in the thread pane on startup.
You have described the correct method to always show 'Local Folders" at the top of the folders pane.
That is not what I commented on and you will see that I did not mention 'top position' or anything similar in my previous review.
If you click on 'Local Folders' in the folders pane, you will see what I want to see in the thread pane whenever Thunderbird starts.
When it was working, 'Folderpane Tools' used to provide this feature - one simply chose 'Local Folders' as the start folder.
Unfortunately, 'Folderpane Tools' no longer works and, although 'Manually Sort Folders' does allow one to select a start folder, that facility does not include 'Local Folders' as 'Folderpane tools used to.
From 'franc's review on November 3, 2014:
".. I looked around and like another here posted (user "RDL"), the only reason why I used Folderpane Tools was to set the Local Folder on top position."

Folderpane Tools
Рейтинг 5 из 5 звёзд
I have that same "Error parsing XML: Entity not defined.." error when trying to use this extension's options in TB31.0.
I hope Philip Chee is able to provide a fix. In the meantime, users may want to try the extension 'Manually Sort Folders', which is also to be found on this website.
'Manually Sort Folders' seems to provide most of the features of 'Folderpane Tools' but,unlike it, does not allow one to specify 'Local Folders' as one's start folder (and thus to see the management page on TB start instead of an actual folder content).
'Folderpane Tools' allows that and is the reason I use it.
'Folderpane Tools' is also about half the size of 'Manually Sort Folders'.
Manually sort folders
Рейтинг 4 из 5 звёзд
Very useful and nearly a substitute for 'Folderpane Tools' when that does not work. However, for me there is one feature missing.
When I click on 'Local Folders' in the folder pane, TB shows a management display in the thread pane.
I would like to be able, in 'Manually sort folders' options, to select 'Local Folders' as my start folder and see that management display each time TB starts.

Sugoi - Have you tried version 3.9.2? It works for me on FF31.0, including restoring my 'send all unsent' button which had disappeared.
If you want to try it:
To find version 3.9.2:
Go to, and click on, 'Version Information' almost at the bottom of this page.
In bottom right of the resulting expanded box, click on ' See complete version history'.
That will take you to the 'Versions' page for MagicSLR, where you will see version 3.9.2 at the top.
How to Install in Thunderbird
Right-click on the 'Download' button next to version 3.9.2 and
in the resulting menu, click on 'Save link as' to Download and save the file to your hard disk.
(you will be asked where you want to save it),
In Mozilla Thunderbird, open 'Add-ons' from the Tools menu.
From the options button there next to the add-on search field
(mine is a cog wheel with tooltip *'Tools for all add-ons"),
select "Install Add-on From File..." and
in the resulting 'File Picker' dialogue, go to and select the downloaded add-on.
It should install.
Restart TB.

Very minor problem. On Win XP SP3, TB11.0, default theme, the horizontal divider line between (below) the mail toolbar and (above) the tab bar is missing. I put it back with the following CSS.
#mail-bar3 {
border-bottom-style: solid !important;
border-bottom-width: 1px !important;
border-bottom-color: rgb(128, 128, 128) !important;
}
#tabs-toolbar {

MR Tech Toolkit
Рейтинг 5 из 5 звёзд
@Maverynthia - Please read my previous review describing Mr Tech's development version which will install in FF6.* to 8. Please also take the time to read that referenced and recommended section of the Mr Tech Toolkit Mozillazine forum topic. Also note that there are at least two other extensions which can override version checking. They are mentioned in the forum. When considering add-ons, it can often help to read their previous AMO reviews.
