Found the options buttons at the bottom of the information page. Description on Github link - " "triple style", which shows a single arrow (›) if a message is sent only to you, a double arrow (») if it is sent to a group and a triple arrow if it is sent to a mailing list."
Triple style works but seems a bit random: single arrow correctly shows up on a first email addressed to me only, double arrows appear on my reply to the sender of that email, (including an unsent draft), and (correctly) to an email to 1 with 2 ccs; triple arrows on an email received addressed to 2 emails and 2 ccs, and (correctly) to emails sent to a large list. Interestingly, only 1 spam message had 3 arrows: a spoof email sent from my own address)
It works with Header Tools Lite and picks up ccs (and my bccs - interested to see if it picks up SENDER bccs?) in its calculations , which is good.
I will continue with it, it is useful.
(When Gmail view is selected (the default), spam, email from me to myself, group and cc'd emails all show 1 angle bracket. (I have catchall mailboxes, as do most domain name owners, they work with the triple style.)
Same result when I sent it to a 1-off email address (not catchall).
Couldn't find how to "add email addresses as identities in thunderbird"? Does this mean have accounts settings set up for each email account (which I have, and the triple style works with that, I wouldnt want the Gmail style anyway)? I have catchalls set up for 2 accounts (each with aliases =different names@my domain name); and 1 email address for each of my other TB accounts.
Did you add all you email addresses as identities in Thunderbird?

It would be great if it could take into account only the To: field. In my organization almost all our email have at lest our supervisor in CC, but if I'm the only one in the To: field it mean that it's personally addressed to me, while if I'm in the CC field it is not personally to me and should be considered as a group mail.

Update:
According to the description, (>>) should appear only when there are multiple people in the email message and (>>>) should only appear when a mailer group is involved. However, in my use, I see (>>>) not only for mailer but also for non-mailer messages with multiple people listed and see (>>) for the same as well.
Example: email message with say user1@domain.com, user2@domain.com gets tagges with (>>>), even though there is no mailer group in it. On the other hand email message with mailer group gets tagged with both (>>) and (>>>). Hence the confusion.
So, this is where it not clear how this is suppose to work. May be you can use an example to illustrate these two cases for clarity. Thanks
I don't understand what exactly needs to be fixed. What you describe is exactly the intended behavior. The idea of the add on is to make it easier for Thunderbird users to identify important mails. That's why it distinguishes 3 three types of mails, the personal level: Mails only sent to you (usually those are most important), mails sent to you but also to others and then mails that are sent to a list, but not directly to one of your mail addresses.
My understanding of a review is that you rate the add-on against its description, I was hoping the description makes the purpose of the add-on clear enough.
I like the idea with colored arrows, I'll add that as a feature request to the bugtracker.

I have two issues with this extension:
1. The icon displayed is counterintuitive. I would expect the smaller one to indicate that I was the sole receipient, and the larger one to indicate that there were multiple recipients. Obviously.
2. It only supports the default email address for the account. If you receive email at more than one email address (e.g. with a catch-all; domain owners will know what I mean), those email addresses are all ignored.
Edit: I appreciate that the extension supports identities. But why depend on identities at all? If an email has a *single* recipient, why not show a single-recipient icon? Why must the recipient be known to Thunderbird? Couldn't this at least be an option? I use an utter slew of identities, and I receive mail at all of them. Only one of them is an identity known to Thunderbird.
Thanks for your comment. To 1. The icon follows the rule of the same functionality provided by Google Mail. The aim of the plugin is to bring GMail's feature back to the desktop, and thus to not confuse users, I decided to use the same icon scheme. Anyways, there is already a feature ticket in the project's bugtracker to make this more flexible. To 2. The plugin supports multiple emails addresses as it takes all addresses into account that are registered as account identities (see Account Settings / Manage Identities). However, the plugin requires Thunderbird to be restarted after identities have been added/removed.
Edit: The addon is now configurable and adds a different visualization, that is not following the google style (which you consider counter intuitive). The new style shows one arrow if the mail is sent only to one of your identities, two arrows if one of your identities is included in the recipients list and three arrows if the mail was sent to a mailing list. The idea of the addon relies on the connection to identities because it aims at visualizing that a mail was sent directly to you and not how many recipients were in the To-list.

The idea for this addon is great, very useful for who is receiveing lots of e-mails every day, and must to know which one is personal. My suggestion to improve it is to allow the user to config the symbols used to indicate the personal level, or give many choices to chose from, making it more intuitive according the personal preferences.

I'd love to see this addon compatible with Postbox. Do you think that's possible? It would most likely be a matter of changing a few parameters, such as product, version, etc. and it would give your addon more visibility. It would be great since Postbox is so focused on being a Gmail desktop program, but it's lacking the features of your addon.
This is from the Postbox website:
Postbox now contains add-on capabilities. We are currently focused on helping add-on authors make their existing Mozilla based add-ons compatible with Postbox. If you are an add-on author and would like to make your add-on compatible, please contact us at addons@postbox-inc.com and we'll be happy to help!

Thanks a lot for your hard work, I really appreciate your addon!

Email me when the configurable feature is available.
As is, this is very counter intuitive.
A two star rating for an add-on which exactly does what is says but which behaviour you personally don't like (or consider counter intuitive) and actually ask for an improvement is not exactly the best way to motivate the developer to implement your feature request. Please read the Guidelines for rating add-ons at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/review_guide to see if this is really what you meant. Meanwhile I recorded your feature request. Thanks.
Edit: Version 0.7 can be configured and implements a second style for those who don't like the GMail-style.

It also works with Seamonkey 2.8 by modifying the install.rdf
Funziona anche con Seamonkey 2.8 modificando il install.rdf
Hi, thanks for your review. Would you mind opening a ticket at https://github.com/vanto/tb-personal-level-indicator/issues and adding the changes you made to install.rdf? I can then support Seamonkey in future versions out of the box.

Tammo

Very nice, but the indicators are totally counter-intuitive IMO. Google got it wrong, and you shouldn't feel the need to copy them. Perhaps > for personal; >> for multi; >>> for mailing list; or reduce each by one > ie nothing for personal
Это отзыв для предыдущей версии этого дополнения (0.5).Henry, thanks for the review. I agree that the indicators can be seen counter-intuitive when not used to Google Mail. I use both, thus I of course feel the need to copy them, just to have it in sync. Anyways, I'll see if I can make it configurable.
Edit: Since version 0.7 the indicators are configurable and provide a second style (triple style), which implements your suggestion.

Thanks for your reply. Keeping with Gmail conventions makes sense, although it still seems backwards on their end :P Perhaps making it user configurable someday?
I did install the .4 version and that has taken care of the double sets of arrows issue.
THANKS!

Thanks for making this, it helps me see faster if I'm required to reply
