Messenger - Quick Access

Рейтинг 5 из 5 звёзд

I ran into the same problem with 2FA that others have mentioned, but all you need is an add-on that will allow you to open a link in another Thunderbird tab.

There are a couple of options for that. I chose this one:
https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/open-tab/

When you get to the screen that tells you to verify your account, just right-click the button and choose "Open in New Tab" from the context menu.

Facebook might give you some hassle depending on which way you choose to verify (a code from an authenticator app is probably the best option), but once you verify on whatever other app or device you're using to do so, close the Messenger tab in Thunderbird, then reopen it. It should load at that point and ask you for your encryption PIN.

Make sure you check the box to stay signed in so you don't have to go through all of that every time!

As for this add-on itself: it does exactly what it says it will! I've got a Messenger icon in my Spaces bar, and it's now open in a tab for me. So far so good!

Open Google Voice

Updating from my previous review, Ruben directed me to the GitHub issues page for the project, and the following instructions fixed my issue (thanks, Ruben!):

1. Go to the Thunderbird Edit -> Preferences -> General and scroll all the way down the page.

2. At the end of the page you should see a button called Config Editor. Click it to open the about:config dialog.

3. Click on the I accept the risk! button.

4. The following strings should be set as follows:

-- media.navigator.permission.disabled true
-- media.setsinkid.enabled true
-- media.allowed-to-play.enabled true
-- media.autoplay.enabled true
-- media.block-autoplay-until-in-foreground true
-- media.playback.warnings-as-errors true

5. Close the window and restart Thunderbird.

This should allow you to give Google Voice permission to access your audio devices, AND you should be able to choose which devices you want to use for each purpose.

One thing to note: Google Voice may not show ALL of your devices when opened through Thunderbird. For example, the output device that I use is a multichannel, output-only USB audio device, and it's not showing up. However, if you go into your Windows audio settings and, in the program specific settings, change Thunderbird to use your desired input and output devices, then Google Voice's settings can be set to "Default audio output device," and it should function as you desire.

Thanks again to the author for their response and help in figuring this out! This add-on will definitely be helpful!

This add-on works as described, so I'm giving it the full five stars, but the problem I've run into is that Thunderbird provides no way that I'm aware of to grant permission for Google Voice to access all of the audio devices on my system. I have to have Google Voice set up a certain way, as I have multiple audio devices. Not a fault of this add-on at all, it's a Thunderbird issue, but I wanted to put it out there in case anyone else runs into the same situation. If not for that, I would absolutely be using this add-on to keep all of my communications in one single window.
