I had an issue with replies not working when using plain text. Axel worked with me, issuing several pre-release bug fixes, until the issue was finally stomped out. I highly recommend using this add-on to replace the awful default reply mechanism in Thunderbird.

Finally found the add-on to do the job. It is called ReFwdFormatter. While I would prefer to have the capability as an option in SmartTemplate4, the developer does not agree that the feature is within the scope of the add-on.
