Subject: ImportExportTools NG v15.0.0 - Export failures (EML, HTML, PDF) with Betterbird 140.9.0

Hello,

First of all, thank you for maintaining ImportExportTools NG.

I would like to report what appears to be a compatibility issue between ImportExportTools NG v15.0.0 and Betterbird 140.9.0esr-bb20 (64-bit) on Windows 11.

Environment:

Betterbird 140.9.0esr-bb20 (64-bit)
ImportExportTools NG v15.0.0
Windows 11 Pro
IMAP account

Problem:
Exports to EML, HTML and PDF consistently fail, while MBOX export works correctly.

Tests performed:

Export folder as MBOX (structured with subfolders)
Success
Folder hierarchy preserved
MBOX files created correctly
Export all messages as EML
Failure
All messages reported as errors
Destination folder remains empty
Export all messages as HTML
Failure
Folder structure and index.html are created
Messages are not exported
"undefined.html" files may appear
Export report shows 100% errors
Export all messages as PDF
Failure
100% errors reported
No PDF files created

Example:

Test folder containing 34 messages
Export report:
Total messages: 34
Total errors: 34
Exported messages: 0

Relevant Error Console messages:

TypeError: can't access property "ownerGlobal", browser is null
setDocument: Error: Cannot create sandbox
NS_ERROR_CONTENT_BLOCKED
browser is null

Additional information:
The issue occurs with multiple export formats (EML, HTML, PDF), suggesting a common problem when processing individual messages. MBOX export continues to function normally.

Please let me know if you would like additional logs, screenshots, or a test profile.

Thanks for the review and dinging me hard for
multiple items with this major update.

There are a few things going on, but you are
experiencing the most significant issue where
all message export (not mbox), produce files
as undefined.xyz.

This is because there was an incomplete option
migration that affects users who were using the old, default file naming format NOT the dropdown or extended formats. I eliminated this redundant mode
and now only the dropdown and extended are supported.

The good news is this can be corrected without even getting an update. This does assume nothing else is
going on, but from your info it matches the problem.

To resolve the issue do the following:
- Go to options
- Click OK to save and exit options
- Try an export
- Go back to options and modify the format to your
needs.

If you can do me the favor of posting an issue in
the Github repository indicating everything is good
, that would be helpful.

The module is well-designed, but I don't understand how to export/import just the accounts. It would be very useful for exporting IMAP accounts from one PC and importing the configuration to another PC without having to move all the emails.

I've been using this extension for a long time and it works great for backing up my emails so that I can then delete the originals in Thunderbird. Christopher is alway quick to update the extension whenever there's a compatibility issue after a TB update. I really appreciate his work on this great tool. In fact, I think the TB developers should consider making it a part of the program.

version 14.1.14 was already released supporting Thunderbird v140-v144. ATN is not showing the latest version though you should have gotten the auto update.

I've been using this without problems to do daily backups from tb 128.14.0esr, on Linux Mint 22.2 Zara
base: Ubuntu 24.04 noble, backing up to an internal drive on my laptop. But I would like to use a network drive attached to my router. That works for the initial backup, but then the daily backups (only files changed since last backup) run on TB exit starts, shows the backing up in progress please wait, after I click oK but the progress bar never moves at all and nothing ever happens. If I delete the initial full backup on the network drive and start again then the initial backup works, but subsequent backups again never write anything. I will try and submit a bug report.

Hello. I succesfully used your module during a long period to backup every day the application without any error message (!). Unfortunately I see today that nothing has been written on my HD since 8 months. What's matter with this? The parametrage is the same. Now the progress bar no longer move. version date 11/09/25. Thunderbird: 140.2.1esr (64 bits)

I very much like this tool. I think it's great and I use the backup scheduling daily. I do have a question (note: I'm not a computer expert so I may not be expressing this correctly). I do a daily backup of my profile with "Just files modified after last backup." It appears that, since the backup frequency is 1 day, the program requires at least 24 hours before it will do the next backup. Also, the backup only occurs upon program closure after that 24 hours (it says: "On the basis of the settings, it's necessary now to make the backup. During this operation, the program will be unresponsive for some minutes.")

Since the backup will only be done upon closure, and I close the program at various times during the day, it appears that the 24 hour backup clock gets reset to a new time depending on when during the day I do the trigger closure. Am I right about that?

If that is so, here's my request. Is there a way to set TB to do a backup closure at the same time every day? Am I missing some function for doing that in the ImportExportTools?

Alternatively, is there a simple way to do a task schedule for this in Windows Task Scheduler?

Again, I really like the tool. I hope I can get some help with this. Thanks.

Hi!
I'd like to have these info/upgrades for backup:
- does it start on TB opening?
- does it backup only one folder or all?
- if I backup today, will I have a tomorrow only the not saved ones?
- the field "Last backup" will contain last folder+date?

Upgrades:
- selection of which account/folders to be included in a backup?

Up to now I guess the best around.

Why can't I delete three emails I tried for one week and there is so many same emails in local in my name file and in my email address I like to go back to a old version. Why can't you fix this problem it's driving me crazy Please can you fix it then I will donate money.

I am so sorry , I don't completely understand your issues. First, deleting emails has nothing to do with ImportExportTools, that's a Thunderbird function.
I also don't understand what you are referring to about your email address.

OMG! This is the best extension EVER! It's saved me probably hundreds of hours of work! I use it to turn entire folders of emails into individual PDFs.

The extension helped me when migrating my Thunderbird Profile to my new PC. Very nice! Thunderbird looks exactly like before, with all my email and calender accounts :)

When I right click on ImportExportTools NG, it appears to be missing the two settings for "Import mbox Files" and "Import EML Messages." It only has the option to export. Can you advise How I get those to be added? Thank you

Import mbox files is only allowed for Local Folders.
You should see import EML messages for both imap and Local Folders in the folder context menu.
Please open an issue in the Github repository if you still have a problem.
Also please reconsider your review since this is really a use question.

Excellent tool! Being new to TB and its add-ons, I had some difficulty understanding what I was supposed to do and which version of ImportExportTools I should use. Christopher was a great help to me throughout the process. It seems to have worked flawlessly in allowing me to import my mother's Windows Live Mail (yes, she was still using WLM!). Highly recommended. Thanks Christopher!
