a great replacement of "close on esc" adding settings as following (tools-->add on--->tbkeys-lite-->option--->the following setting I wrote and then at the bottom of page and click save. IT Works!!!
"esc": "tbkeys:closeMessageAndRefresh"

Thank you AncientGeek! TB78 has been driving me crazy without Norm's awesome add-on. Tbkeys-lite does the trick. Thank goodness!

sadly doesn't work with 78 (yet?).

A truly useful add-on! Unfortunately, stopped working after upgrade to TB 78. Could you take another look at this, Norm?

Extremly helpful! Is it possible, to change from "Go back to first tab after close" to something like "Go to next left tab after close"?

Thanks for updating this. Such an apparently insignificant feature but soooo useful. I've been missing it since recent updates stopped the original version working.

I concur with previous reviews! So frustrated about ESC button not working. Here's the solution. Works 100%. Great!

Wow, I am so glad I found this! Have been missing this functionality for months since "Close on Escape" was not working anymore. I just registered at thunderbird.net only to leave this review :-)

Norm, sorry. I made a mistake.
The original addon did not close the other tabs, but just the one you read.
Your version is OK.
