According to other users Adwaita Thunderbird works on 36.x however you'll need to compile the XPI here

Great gnome-shell look and feel, but new Thunderbird versions come with tabs over toolbars, so this theme looks awkward

Beautiful integration into gnome-shell. With this theme, plus the corresponding Firefox theme, my integration into gnome-shell is complete.
