Very nice addon--thank you, Amulya. For asbin, by going into Thunderbird's about:config ("Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General -> Config Editor (button)" I was able to modify extensions.follow_up_ext.calname from "Follow-Up" to the name of my Google Calendar in Thunderbird's calendar list. The follow-up event now syncs to my Google Calendar. That seems to work fine as far as I can tell so far. Maybe that helps.

For what it's worth, I was having problems after upgrade to 6.0--tried a bunch stuff and then deleted stylish.sqlite in profile directory. DB regen'd on FF restart, added styles back in and everything worked fine. Maybe that will help some others.
