I use it with a tiling WM and it works great. It's open source and the code is hosted on GitHub. I like it a lot :-)

I run thunderbird in a 10" screen.. This addon is very important to me as it saves me precious screen estate!

1. Type about:config in your address bar.
2. Search for hidemenubar.autohide setting
3. Set it to false.
