Much like gmail, but for Thunderbird thread view, it makes it so that your most recent thread will be sorted to the top. It is a lot easier to see what's going on in thread view. For years I used non-threaded simply because threads that have been _updated_ would not bubble to the top when they got a new message. This follows gmail's model, which makes sense and I think this should be a public add-on (or ideally integrated with the client itself since it makes so much sense).
