Flexible Identity

Assegnate 5 su 5 stelle

Very nice. Just want to mention for those that are having problems with the use of "expressions" that this add-on works very well, even without using any "expressions" at all. Just entering any relevant word will do. What was a little bit confusing at first was that the correct identity will get picked only the moment you click on the "Save" button.

Account Colors

Assegnate 5 su 5 stelle

Thanks for a great tool that I've been using for quite some time already. I just discovered that the later versions even allow to color the identities in the composing window (in the drop down list with identities that seems to get longer and longer ;-)).

Question: would it be technically possible to include an option to change also the background colors of the sub-identities? Right now, picking a background color works only for the main identity of each account. I'd like to make a few identities really stand out (so I won't use them inadvertently) by giving them a dark background and a bright font.

Auto Select Latest Message

Great little tool. At first I downloaded version 2 and it didn't have ANY effect at all in my TB portable (v.10 ESR). Later in the day I tried out version 1 ...and it works!!! Yippee!

Super Date Format

Assegnate 4 su 5 stelle

This is a really nice idea, but I had issues with the chronological order of emails after customizing the "year" format. I wanted to use the add-on to shorten the standard date format to save horizontal space. So I reduced the "year" format from the usual 4 digits to the last two digits (like 2012 to just 12). It works, but then the chronological order of emails gets mixed up (especially if new mail arrives). One can correct the mixed up order, shortly, by clicking on SDF's own new "Date" column again, but it keeps reverting to the mixed up order. Had to deactivate the add-on. It would be nice, if the add-on could keep the logical chronological order of the standard date format while displaying the new customized date format.

Get Selected Mails

Assegnate 5 su 5 stelle

In case someone can't see his second, etc. profile: in my TB the second profile only shows up, if the "Custom button"-option for the first profile gets unclicked. (But you can still create a custom button for the first profile, as long as the "Custom button"-option is clicked, you just have to unclick it afterwards for the second profile to show.)

Edit June 4th:
The problem I described above has to do with my using the "Menu Bar" for all my buttons. "Get Selected Mails" seems to work properly in the "Toolbar", but not quite so properly in the "Menu Bar".
-----
Edit June 10th:
After I mentioned the issue with the Menu Bar (the first GSM was designed to work only with the "Mail Toolbar"), the developer actually rewrote the GSM engine, and now GSM works perfectly even in the Menu Bar.

Sort and Search Customization Dialogs

Assegnate 5 su 5 stelle

...someone came up with a solution to Mozilla's irresponsible mess in the customize window. I never understood according to what "logic" the icons were arranged. A few seem to have been placed, temporarily, in chronological order, but then those also switched their order unexpectedly. If you had LOTS of icons (e.g. if you are using the "Toolbar Buttons" extension) it could take you minutes until you found your icon, and, admittedly, sometimes I just gave up, unnerved.

This add-on finds the icons already while typing in the search field. It also finds icons, if you type any letters of any part of the icon's name. I wonder whether an optional chronological arrangement of the icons would be possible, though I doubt it. Thousand thanks for this solution!

Folder Pane View Switcher

Assegnate 5 su 5 stelle

I suggest using this together with the "Advanced Unread Folders" add-on. That one adds a very useful sorting function that can be used with this one.

Advanced Unread Folders

Assegnate 4 su 5 stelle

Helps avoiding missing unnoticed unread emails. As long as there is no toggle shortcut and a toggle button to toggle quickly the add-on's "Unread (Advanced)"-command, this add-on is best used together with the "Folder Pane View Switcher" add-on. You get to the "Unread (Advanced)" view with just one click on the back arrow. ;-)

BTW, in my FF11 none of the options (either clicked or unclicked) stick after they are okayed.

I still miss an add-on that keeps indicating DIRECTLY on the TB interface if there is still some unread email in any folder (I use eight different accounts, and those that are collapsed don't betray at all if there is still an unread message in them).

Maybe some blinking sign or a blinking number (displaying the number of unread mails) in the status bar would help to draw attention to it that there are still unread emails somewhere. The number would stop blinking when there is no unread mail left.

Allow HTML Temp

Assegnate 5 su 5 stelle

This is really nice. What's missing is some indicator whether an email uses HTML. That indicator could be a small symbol that appears in the header bar or in the status bar (e.g. together with the "Allow HTML" symbol), every time an email has an HTML part. Often it is not possible to tell whether an email uses HTML or not. I believe that's what also "Apedemak" meant in his comment below (from Jan 2010). (BTW, an old email client, "Foxmail", used such an indicator)

Edit May 14th:
Maybe, simply by not displaying this add-on's changing icon in the status bar, whenever a message is in plain text, would be enough to indicate that a message has no html part. I keep finding myself clicking on the html option in the status bar while some messages just don't have html.

QuickFolders (Tabbed Folders)

Assegnate 5 su 5 stelle

Great tool! But I find ANY toolbar should ALWAYS have a toggle hotkey and a toggle button that can make the toolbar quickly appear and disappear. Shouldn't be too difficult to implement. Clicking one's way through "View > Toolbars" is just too awkward. At least, under "View", a toolbar should always have one of those underlined letters (in that case one could create a hotkey with some macro program). ;-)

Play drums!

Has anyone bothered to check the Privacy Policy of this add-on?

"For operating purposes, this module enables the gathering of a number of non-personal data, including your public IP address and your browsing data, stored for a maximum of three years, to compile statistics and optimize ads distribution, directly or through research programs"

"Your browsing data" can only mean: any website you visit.

Two stars for being honest about what's happening in the background.

Trueblock Plus

Assegnate 4 su 5 stelle

The new "fork" named "Trueblock" is ridiculous. At best, it can be considered useful to express some people's anger. It uses the unchanged original AdBlock Plus code, adjusting only ONE user setting (that everyone can change for himself EASILY). If "forking" like that should become the rule, Mozilla would have to think up ways of how to deal with it.

To counter the somewhat exaggerated hysteria regarding the "non-intrusive ads" feature in the original AdBlock (I posted a critical comment on the new "feature" here already):

not only is it extremely EASY to deactivate it in the original add-on, it can even be DELETED COMPLETELY ("Actions" > "Delete"), i.e. the whitelist AND the newly added options dialog will be removed. I didn't lose ANY of my old filters and settings after the update with the new "feature". Everything is working as before. Even after the very latest new update, the deleted whitelist and new option didn't reappear (actually, I wanted it to reappear to check the whitelist again). And, please, nobody tell me that someone who knows how to pick and maintain his preferred filter lists, doesn't know how to deactivate the new feature with a single click, or re-download his old filters after a messed up update, which seems to have happened to one or two people.

If there were "minus" stars available for rating an add-on, I'd give the "fork" several minus stars. ;-)

I do think though that W. Palant should at least make the whitelist as easily accessible as all other lists. Until then, only five stars.

Tiny Menu

The homepage of this add-on mentions that, as of June 27th, there already is an adapted version (2.0.3) for FF5. You'll find the updated working version 2.0.3, if you click on the link "View all versions" at the bottom of his page.

Silvermel

Assegnate 4 su 5 stelle

Silvermel has been my favourite theme for a while. But the latest update (after switching to FF3.5) keeps displaying a Silvermel screen for a fraction of a second, any time I open a new tab. I hope this is not intentional. Frankly, I find this sucks. I prefer my browser to stay "neutral". ;-) Downloaded the previous version from May 10th and that one works properly (without that short glimpse of a Silvermel screen each time a new tab loads).

Dcurrency

Assegnate 4 su 5 stelle

I like it a lot, but I wish it's automatic updates (especially the automatic updates after every restart of FF and any time I just click on it in the status bar) could be optionally disabled and a manual update option were available. (I don't want to let Yahoo know, just as with Google, about my whereabouts and interests on too many occasions.)
