Walnut for Thunderbird
Assegnate 3 su 5 stelle
Walnut for Thunderbird 2.0.32 is a step backward. The Add-ons Manager window is inexplicably now much too narrow. As a result, the printed description of each item is all scrunched up such that the content of each field intrudes on the columns of other fields. Had to shake my head at the claim of "improved main window styling." Certainly not the case with the add-ons manager window. And there is now so much wasted space to the right of the add-ons window. Please restore the full width display of previous versions.
Furthermore, this theme no longer plays nicely with the add-on T-Bird Titlebar Tweaker. The minimize button, close button, and other buttons in the upper right corner no longer function. I suppose the author of that add-on will be responsible for fixing that problem with a subsequent release, but I cannot help but ask: why is all this necessary? So many additional problems for so little net gain.
Unfortunately, this is becoming all too common with Mozilla products. After many years, I have finally dumped Mozilla's Firefox for Opera and Chrome. Guess I'll now have to start looking for an email alternative to replace Thunderbird. Sigh...

Lightning

I am a long-time user of Sunbird, so adoption of Lightning was a natural. I especially love the calendar file import feature that allows me to import calendar events downloaded from my children's school web site.
Alas, Lightning 4.0.2.1 does not work in the latest release of Sunbird 2.38. Even the usual trick of editing the install.rdf file within Lightning's .xpi file to increase the SeaMonkey maxVersion parameter failed to work. I had to roll back to SeaMonkey 2.35 to restore Lightning. Looking forward to an update to Lightning soon that works with latest SeaMonkey release.
Actually, this problem highlights the primary reason I still use Sunbird even though it has been discontinued: it is a stand-alone app independent of any parent framework like Thunderbird or SeaMonkey but has almost all of the same features as Lightning.
DownThemAll!

Kudos to barvaz for the insightful tip on getting DownThemAll to work in SeaMonkey 2.5. I knew about changing the maxVersion value in the install.rdf file but did not know about the META-INF folder. Deleting that folder made all the difference: DTA now works in SeaMonkey on my pc, too.
Great tip; many thanks!

One of my half-dozen or so most indispensable add-ons. Unfortunately, while version 2.0.8 works in SeaMonkey 2.4, it fails in SeaMonkey 2.5.
Changing the maxVersion value in the install.rdf file to 2.5 produces an error message "The add-on downloaded from unknown host could not be installed because it appears to be corrupt."
Please update soon to enable this otherwise marvelous add-on to work properly in SeaMonkey 2.5.
IE Tab Plus (FF 3.6+)

Whenever I select any option without adware activated (i.e., Basic Mode or else Full Mode with Support Price Comparison unchecked), the option window keeps popping up from time to time even after restarting Firefox. The clear intent is to "encourage" users to change their selection because the only apparent way to suppress this window is to allow the adware.
I have been a long-time user of IE Tab from back in the days when it was Coral IE Tab. I am no fan of adware, but I will sometimes tolerate it if the program's functionality is worthwhile. However, this program has now crossed over into the realm of nagware, and that I will not tolerate. As I am unwilling to keep track of which version is adware-free and which isn't, I have taken the path of least resistance by uninstalling this product altogether and will never use it again. Too bad; it was nice while it lasted.
NewsFox

The Group feature performs awkwardly. I could only drop-and-drag one feed at a time; I had to continually close and then re-open the Group Options window to move an additional feed. Users should be able to move multiple feeds at on time.
On top of that, the grouped feeds appear not only in the new Group, but they also remain in the parent menu as well. That seems like an exercise in redundancy.
For people with a small handful of feeds, this add-on can be very useful. However, for users with large numbers of feeds that need to be grouped, there are better choices for off-line readers (e.g., RSS Owl among others).
Folderpane Tools

I loved this extension when it worked in Thunderbird 2.0.0.23. However, I also experienced the "XML parsing error" after installing Thunderbird 3. Now I use the extension "Manually sort folders" instead.
Questa recensione riguarda una versione precedente (0.0.5.1) del componente aggiuntivo.MR Tech Toolkit
Assegnate 4 su 5 stelle
This has been the most invaluable of all the 40+ extensions I use in Firefox and Thunderbird. However, I recently updated Thunderbird to version 3.0 only to find that the custom window title feature of the MR Tech Toolkit extension (version 6.0.4) appears not to work any more. The custom variables I use (DefaultTitle, Version, and Profile) all show the correct values in the option window listing. However, whether I use those values or hard-wire a custom window title with no variables at all, custom titles no longer appear in Thunderbird's title bar. Only Thunderbird's default title appears. And yes, I have checked the "Use custom custom window below" option; my same exact settings work perfectly in Firefox version 3.5.6, and they also used to work fine with Thunderbird 2.0.0.23. (If it makes any difference, I am still lumbering along with Windows XP.)
Has anyone else reported a similar problem, or am I doing something wrong unique to me?
