I can confirm what Reiner told on April 14, 2015:
https://addons.mozilla.org/de/thunderbird/addon/thundersync/reviews/699270/
I tried to import from UTF-8 VCF file, but all umlauts got worse. Simple workaround for me: copy all files into a single VCF, convert this to ISO-8859-1 and import from this single file --> worked.
But it's not the right way to simply workaround existing UTF-8 coded files...

I think my troubles might be related to the VCF as output by Android contacts.

Very easy to use tools! Bravo and thank you.
But I am facing a problem: many contacts appear =! although I understand why and thereby prevent the general sync. I tried to change the formats, but somewhat randomly so without success. I'm in Vcard directory. I tried The vCard and UTF8 formats. Thank you for your help

Basicly it's a great add on but there seems to be still a big bug. I selected for export vCard v2.1 and UTF-8 but the result is always ISO-8859-1. The CHARSET values shows UTF-8 but the values are wrong, e.g. “=D6? (for German Ö) insted of “=C3=A4?.
On the other hand, the beat is far more than two years old. Therefore it seems there is no further development on it, isn't it?

Excellent add-on, but frequently we need a single VCF to email. Exporting to multiple files, but it's tedious to find the vCard from gibberish :

Additionally, with multiple address books, Sync does not complete and only some of the addressbooks and some of the contacts are exported. Uninstalled.

SID DTS-12092014:15:25] Review of ThunderSync 2.1
DETAILS}
Review of ThunderSync 2.1
The function of the add-on may be the future replacement of LDAP! In this review, I'll explain how the function of the add-on can serve as a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) alternative. In-line, I'll also explain the difference between "directory" .vcf and "single file" .vcf options. This is a great add-on for the collection: IETE Thunderbird Collaboration Suite.
The add-on presented no problems during installation and once the add-on has been installed, the end-user would go to Add-ons / Extensions / ThunderSync / Options to configure the settings. The add-on will open-up to address books on the left and tabbed settings on the right. The export format has two (2) options: (i) directory .vcf or (ii) .vcf single files.
During synchronization, the export will either export all the contacts of the selected address book as single .vcf files or as one complete .vcf file. Before selecting the directory it's advisable to follow the tips below:
(i) Create a new address book for synchronization.
(ii) Select the primary address book and copy all to the address book details that will be used for synchronization into the newly created address book for synchronization.
(iii) Go back to the ThunderSync settings and for the export directory choose a cloud synced directory. Here we created and chose the directory LDAP; this directory is synced with one of our cloud providers: SpiderOak, because we can give specific access to parties by unique URL routed through AWS IAM policies. Also MS Windows has a limit on long filenames and SpiderOak doesn't. When contacts are ranging in the 100 thousands and millions, this becomes important.
*******************
Tips
_ Navigate to Options / Account Settings and deselect: Check mail at start-up.
_ Synchronize address book often.
_ Make sure view card files (.vcf) information is complete, otherwise it's poor (dirty) data.
******************
(iv) Choose the options for Import in Thunderbird on Startup so that, contact information is shared the moment it's updated.
(v) Choose Interactive Synchronization for Standard Action.
(vi) Choose Export From Thunderbird on Shutdown.
The next statement is virtually the most important resulting function of the add-on: Since we chose SpiderOak, there's virtually no need for an LDAP host server and millions of contacts' information are regulated, updated and synced automatically across devices and platforms.

Update} 12272014:11:24]
We now use Box for Business for crypto commerce and overall design research and development. Although, it probably isn't necessary for use, Box does have a LDAP plugin. In any case, what will be looking for is ThunderSync to track files that have changed rather than trying scan and sync everything. We're now moving to more than 5k contacts and ultimately in the millions. Therefore, it's important for the add-on present an option: track for changes only.
_ SpiderOak removed due to numerous long-time fails;
_ OwnDrive managed by OwnCloud removed due to daily: domain can't be found.
Thank you,

Wonderful to export contacts to another mail application.
I used Thunderbird to import my Outlook .pst contacts then I exported all vcards to a folder with ThunderSync, works much faster and better than .csv export/import.
Great extension!

Was hoping to use this to export Address Book in .vcf format to sync with Galaxy S5. Didn't even find my address books so no use. Using TB24.6.0 on Linux Mint 15

I just wanted to export single or multiple contacts as a .vcf file, not establish broad addressbook synchronization. Simply, I just wanted another drop-down file format option for .vcf when exporting.

This is a very clever little extension. What it does, it does well. It is a clever workaround to some limitations in Thunderbird.
Unlike the creator, I do not want to use this with a phone; I use this to synchronize contacts in a small office instead of LDAP. As such, the decision to remove processing of mailing lists is a disappointment to me. It should have been made into an option, i.e., "Ignore mailing lists when synchronizing" and check or uncheck according to your needs. Also, when I tried to use it across a network share (Windows SMB) it took a long time to process and then didn't find anything to sync in the repository.
If those two things are fixed, it'll go from great to fabulous!

A lot of explanation with little clarity. I was hoping to be able to import vCard files with this, but cannot figure out how to do that, or if this add-on does that.

Love this add-on! I use it to sync my business cards. I scan them with ABBY BC Sync, export as vCard to folder, then sync this folder to Thunderbird Address Book via ThunderSync. This works without any issues!

Very nice tool - many thanks! Export to vcard should be a default feature of Thunderbird. This add-on finally adds that capability.
Some feedback:
- Although the sync succeeds I get this error when exporting/importing to/from a single file: A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
Script: chrome://thundersync/content/ThunderSyncVCardLib.js:402
(where the line number is different every time)
I just stop the script to continue.
- Would be nice if one could only sync e.g. accounts which have phone numbers. No need for all my contacts to be in my phone.
- It's strange you have to select an *existing* file when exporting to a single file: it might be the first export, so a file would not exist yet.
- Sync of contact goes wrong when displayname contains = (equal sign).
- Sync of contact goes wrong when email contains " (quote).

This is an excellent Add-On. It would be perfect if it could sync individual contacts, rather than the entire address book.

This is GREAT! A perfect addon for backing up contacts and allowing to easy off-line syncing with phones. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is there's one niggly bit: When there is a difference, you need to change for each difference whether TB is exported or imported. I've found this very tiresome when I've simply emailed a lot to some people and the Popularity Index has changed. It would be nicer if there's a button to say "Import all" or "Export all", and if the startup auto-sync is turned on, there should be an option for "Always export / import".Other than that it would be nice if it could use not just standard files, but IMAP / LDAP / WebDav as well. But that's just a nice to have for me, not a train-smash.
Also it would be nice to have a toolbar button!

It would be AWESOME if the source/target of these files could be IMAP-stored attachments. The new Thunderbird 3.3 API might help doing this, and that would allow thunderbird<->thunderbird transparent syncronization :-)
I use SVN+CRON to achieve something similar ATM, and as long as there are no conflicts, it runs just fine.

Very Nice,
So pity it does not support Hebrew.
Would it support Hebrew characters in the future?
In version 1.1 the user will be able to choose the preferred file encoding (ISO 8859-? or UTF-8) plus encoding handling in the vCard library will be reworked.
