Hi there, first, I don't think it's the best place asking for tech help, and I would really prefer to see actual feedback to the addon. Anyways, as you already found out according to your last post, "The sessionstore.js file stores the currently open tabs and windows" - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data In my addon, I use naive way to search for given url through the opened tabs (by API like getBrowserAtIndex). All the best for your dev.

I have only one suggestion - as soon as user prefers to use the button - it gets it with a small black triangle near it. Actually the button is a placeholder and the triangle itself makes a job - user gets submenu of 2 items and choose one of them.
If it is so, it'll be more comfortable, if the button itself will activate one of alternatives and triangle - the second without calling the submenu. Instead of checkmark (the second alternative) the color of button can be changed.

I just installed it and already see the usefullness of this addin!
You write: "saved local nodes can be viewed in the sidebar, but how?
Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. It reminds me of updating the screenshots and HOWTO.

The menu item "Open/close Notes Sidebar" is below "Save to Local Notes" in the popup menu in searching view. If you are using SeaMonkey or older version of FF, please check Developer's Comments->KNOWN ISSUE.

Any further questions are more than welcome. Please email to "Support E-mail" (if you can't find the menu item or the sidebar still doesn't open) or, even better, add another review :) Thanks.

I don't know about you, by my path through the internet is very convoluted. With this add-on, trying to figure out where I was after I went to that site where I click all those links... Becomes much easier!
Easily follow your tracks through the internet with FromWhereToWhere!

Glad that you enjoy reviewing the history in this way. I'm still discovering interesting patterns from my own browsing history. Frankly the current GUI is quite limited and sometimes it requires some "skills" and patience to get what you want. Please bear with it until I come up with some improvements. Any suggestion is more than welcome as always.

This add-on is simply fantastic. It should be integrated into every internet browser. Kudos to the developer.

This should be used to manage history in Firefox. It really really cuts through soo much content in a snap. Simple. Amazing. Can the interface become geared towards maniplulating places? Its so good it should be integrated! Every browser (not just FF) should get this. Great Job!

Thanks a lot for the compliments. The reason I try this idea out in Firefox in the first place is that it's just a great open and extensible platform with detailed document and strong support from the development community. The implementation of the idea is quite straightforward, so if another browser use similar way to keep browsing history it shouldn't be hard to add such feature.

That being said, one major shortcoming of this plugin is the performance. As a former review mentioned, it takes quite some time to build the tree history. I myself have experienced "unresponsive script" warning during the searching, even though my browsing history is no more than 2 years old. One possibility in the plan is incremental searching, get 10 top nodes at a time for example.

Now I'm trying hard to interpret your suggestion as I assume it's part of the reason you took one star off. So far I come up with following possible aspects. I'd really appreciate it if you could clarify it a little through "Feature Request" or "Bug tracker" on the project's sourceforge page.
1) if it's about the search results: a) customizable display, like reverse order by date; b) more convenient ways to store and share the tree history (online); c) changing or deleting the history from FF browsing history manually (I feel reluctant to directly write or modify the FF database from the start, and I'm not sure if it's possible/recommended to delete records from the database. Even if it can be done, I can't think of a good reason so far).
2) if it's about link suggestion: a) make recommendation customizable, for example, specify words that you want or don't want in the suggested link, or specify some link that you'd rather not suggest ever again, etc; b) more friendly ways to access the link.

Again thanks for your encouragement and support.

The great (and smart) thing is that the developer used what is already existing in FF to offer a new functionality. From a privacy point of view this is an extension that will not expose the history to someone else than the one able to log into the FF on the computer. No need to use an external database hosted somewhere on the net. And something makes is event more interesting : you can load it in FF only when necessary : save the XPI on your disk, install it in FF and desinstall it when finished. The next time you need it you can reinstall it, it will work perfectly.
I received a warning about a script taking too long to execute, when I searched for a specific page : the extension had to build the tree and it can take a while. In that case do not interrupt the script. At least not yet : give it a chance to finish the data crunching ;-)
As an improvement I'd like to see a kind of "temporal filter" in the tree, or a way to set a "window upon history" to limit the scope of the results. Say you want to track the history to/from the 02/02 : you could exclude the pages visited in January or in the other way, exclude the ones after February. It would allow trimming of the "tree branches" that one feels are of no interest. You could also have the possibility to set a "not before but after" date interval... Still, it's a great addon as it is. I hope it will be updated to match the FF updates :-)

Thanks a lot for your experience sharing and great suggestion. I'll add some form of "temporal filter" first (likely in Jan 2011). To address the time-consuming searching issue (causing the warning) --- a problem from the start --- besides optimization I'm thinking of showing the searching results incrementally, and making the searching process manually interruptible. That's going to need more effort.
Thanks again for the detailed comment and encouragement. It's a nice new year gift for me.

after several attempts, i finally got it installed and it is a great add on. still bothers me that the message continued to appear.

Thanks for the great patience and adjusting the review. Sorry for the inconvenience while installing. I had the same frustrating experience myself before. It appeared to me that there was a period of time after the updating of a new version during which the error message "corrupt file" shows up while installing. My update from version 0.19.1 -> 0.19.3 was just got approved by Mozilla Add-ons reviewers at 12:27pm EDT, like an hour ago, and there must be some file replacement on the addon website. I was hoping that this wouldn't happen every time but it seems like a constant issue now. I'll try to report it to someone.

.
WOW.
That's all I said after opening the Tools>FromWhereToWhere tab. Wow!
You don't know how many times I've wanted this kind of information!!! Or perhaps you do, which is why you made this killer plugin! thank you!

Thanks for the support and encouragement. You don't know what a pleasure it is for me to see --- instead of just hoping --- someone out there actually finds it useful.
I was thrilled to find that the information is recorded in Firefox history all along without making good use of, and I feel obliged to make it happen as the addons performing similar function that I know (like "Referrer History") are no longer available for current FF.
Though there are already some possible improvements in my mind, I would appreciate any suggestion from you, an actual user's perspective.
