Privacy on the Internet is increasingly under attack, as searches and visits are routinely recorded and combined into personal and behavioral profiles by the major search engines.
While you are searching the internet, these engines register the time of your searches, the terms you used, the sites you visited and your IP address. In many cases this IP address makes it possible to trace the computer, and in turn the household, that carried out the search.
When we search, we share our most private thoughts with our computers. These private thoughts should be safe.
Startpage's position:
- You have a right to privacy.
- Your search data should never fall into the wrong hands.
- The only real solution is quickly deleting your data or not storing them to begin with.

In 2008 Startpage/Ixquick received the first European Privacy Seal. The Seal officially confirms the privacy promises Startpage/Ixquick makes to it's users. It makes Startpage/Ixquick the only search engine that is third party certified.
