This might have gotten a higher rating, but I definitely consider user/dev interaction in the rating. While the plugin is serviceable, ti does have issues, ones which the creator rudely doesn't want to address.
Some effects, like say using a sharpening plugin in photoshop, when combined with this resizer make the image unusable. When resized in any other way, even using MS Paint, the image is fine, but whatever method this plug uses introduces a massive amount of grain and noise, ruining the image.
Additionally, the plugin, for reasons unknown, likes to increase the size of some images when resizing them. The only reason to resize images is to save file size, mainly to fit many images into an email at once. Yet, certain kinds of images seem to have their sizes doubled or tripled after running this plugin on them. When resized via another method, again like MS Paint? The size is properly reduced.
When this was addressed with the dev, they indicated they didn't feel they were bugs, and despite answering questions that were asked by them, the response was to "stop bothering them". Cannot recommend the app, or the user experience.and as per their suggestion, I've found another resizer that resizes without causing those issues, 'shrunked image resizer', simple, fast app, and images resized without file size increase or massive grain introduced.
[response to dev] It's a bug, because the behaviour only happens with ARI. When the image is resized with any other app out there (including SIR) no noise and garbage is introduced into the image. When your plugin is the only one causing the behaviour, it's your bug.
And yes, the fact that most of the time the plugin reduced size was nice, your response when I pointed out that there were times that it didn't and considered that a bug was what I was commenting on. Shrinking an image and increasing size is basically a bug. There is no reason it should be doing that, and you trying to pass that off with hand waving, excuses and rudeness is why you get 1 star and this review. I actually took the time to contact you first rather than posting a review (since you took issue with someone writing their review first rather than contacting you) but it seems to make no matter as anyone who has an issue with ARI obviously has something wrong with them.
What a subjectiv way to explain things...
What this user does not want to understand is that the odd observed behaviour is the result of an inappropriate usage of the plugin and an occurrence of several factors:
Have you got an error while using the plugin all alone? no.
Have you got an error while using an effect in photoshop? no.
Have you got an error while using an effect and ARI? yes.
So the guilty one is... the combination of both, isnt it?
No for this user the guilty is ARI, whatever i could say. "And it's a bug, and it's ARI"
Did he send me a full debug report? No.
Did he provide me the original and resulting images? No.
So it cannot be said that's a bug, at most this is a quality issue, but quality is quite subjectiv.
Of course ARI is not challenging professionnal solutions (even MS Paint), but quality is not the main purpose of this addon.
> The only reason to resize images is to save file size, mainly to fit many images into an email at once.
I would say that it is one of the main purposes, but NOT ONLY.
Indeed the plugin increases the file size, but only under certain circumstances... which once more is stated by the author as a bug. Of course, for the 99% left cases the fact that file size is decreased does not matter for this user.
Very funny behaviour...
Did he ever provide me elements (detailed procedure, image, etc.) which could help me to solve it? No.
I tried to explain him that it was not the plugin the guilty but his special usage which does not represent the main usage of all other users. But hearing how sure he stated it was an ARI's bug, i stopped the arguing and told him to stop bothering me.
It seems this user couldnt bear it...
What an ethical way of doing things but to furtively making some inacurrate report which does not represent the major usage.
And good for you you found "shrunked image resizer" and that it suits your needs. I hope that people who do prefer a x-platform compatible plugin, with lots of settings and parameters like ARI offers do not go on "shrunked image resizer" mozilla page to tell they prefer ARI by saying such negativ and inaccurate things...
For example "shrunked image resizer" uses another resizing method (it offers 2 if i remember well) which are not the same than ARI. Sometimes SIR produces a better result, sometimes it's ARI. Sometimes SIR produces bigger file size, sometimes ARI does.
SIR can keep EXIF data, ARI cant.
ARI offers much more settings and parameters. SIR is much more simpler.
Every user decides which one is the most appropriate for his own usage... which does not mean the other one is just a bunch of buggy snippets.
(Talking about rudeness) Personnally i consider that accusing something/someone without providing concrete proofs or ways to improve is much more noticeable than telling someone to leave him alone.
You really should look at yourself in a mirror before pointing out other's people behaviour.
Your emails were just accusations and you never opened the debate.
