And, if, as other comments say, nothing can be DONE with "categories", then it has no purpose in the first place

I needed this addon in order to categorize my mail accounts (i.e private, companyA, companyB). I don't know if there might be another way to do this, but with this add-on it works.
The only thing which is missing is that there are no names displayed (anymore?) for the categories in Folder View. And maybe it would be nice to sort categories individually...

I'd rather not rate this, because it isn't what I thought it was when I installed. Turns out though, rating was required. So since it is installed, what is the actual purpose? Yes, you can assign any account or email to a given category, but then what? It seems to have no other effect, other than just having a category name assigned. I thought it might group these categories together, as in re-arranging Thunderbird's folder panel. But not so. It doesn't seem to do anything with the folders. However, it is rated pretty highly, so apparently I am missing its primary purpose. Would someone explain what that is? Many thanks...

Joshua - Did so, several times. But it just didn't do anything. Perhaps its my TB Version = v20.0 Beta..

Go to View > Folders > Category to get the rearranged folder listing.

@kazar: Do you have the addon "Manually sort folders" installed? Deactivating it solved the problem for me

This add-on plus the Save Searches feature really helps to keep TB's interface clean and uncluttered.

Works for me with TB 14 in Mac and Ubuntu.

Greta idea but this add-on does not appear to be compatible with Mac, TB 12 or 13. It installs without complaint. But then Set Category does nothing, no pane pops up anywhere for entering a category name ... have written to dev to ask but meanwhile hoping to spare other Mac users from putting time into checking this out

To my mind it's a very good add-on which can be used in versatile manner to personalize the folder view!
