Good idea, but it doesn't work with PDFs (displays a black-filled window). Most of attachments I receive are PDFs. If it worked with PDFs, then that's 5/5.
Ubuntu latest, Thunderbird latest 2026-04

Edit: Okay given it's not dev's fault, I give 4/5 ;-)

It is nice. However: The background image is not wide enough to cover a 4K sceen. So the left top and bottom corners have a black background.

Perhaps it could be just styled so that it is at least solid beige rather than black?

Also, is there a way for this to make it react to the Dark Mode of the OS? (Ubuntu in my case).
