Thank you! I turns out [ &sout=1 ] is the parameter you need to use to search through the old layout. This search engine brilliantly adds that to the address, like this search for "volcano":
http://www.google.com/images?sout=1&q=volcano
I have added this as a bookmark, so that I can simply type "gim volcano" in the address bar to search in the old layout (or whatever keyword you specify instead of "gim"), no search box needed:
http://www.google.com/images?q=%s&sout=1
The %s marks where "volcano" or any other search word is inserted.

All I get when I try to download this, in Firefox 4 is a page that says:
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

Why can't I find this listed anywhere in my add-ons? It's working just fine, but I have no access to preferences or disabling it or uninstalling it because it isn't showing up in the list.
Update: OK, I guess you just remove it from the search bar options, but you might want to tell people this. I was starting to think it was mal-ware.
Hi hatpin. My search plugin works the same way all search plugins do. I have no control over the way the plugin interfaces with the browser, that ball is in Mozilla's court. Thanks for the review though.

Can you make an addon like this so that every time one goes to google images and searchs for something (without using the FF built-in search bar) it displays the basic version?
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (20110223).Sure, I've answered this on my blog. Check out the 4th comment on this page: http://websitedesignsunshinecoast.net.au/google-images-basic-version-firefox-and-chrome-plugin#comments
