Please update this add-on for Thunderbird 3.1.6!

FoxyTunes

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I was looking for an easy, streamlined way to listen to Last.fm while browsing the Web. At first, I used Fire.fm, and for the most part, it was good. However, whenever I'd have to restart Firefox, my music would stop playing, which was just about as disruptive to my workflow as Firefox restarting. So, I decided to try FoxyTunes to see if I could get it to control my separate Last.fm player. This way, I could restart Firefox without worrying about the music also stopping.

If it worked exactly as advertised, FoxyTunes would get five stars from me. However, when I select Last.fm from the player list and click the Play or Stop buttons, all it does is bring the Last.fm player to the foreground. It doesn't actually play or stop, making this extension useless for me, as I could just as easily click on the Last.fm icon in my system tray to accomplish the same thing.

Additionally, since Last.fm doesn't support pausing, FoxyTunes should hide the pause button when Last.fm is selected. However, it does not, which I know is going to be confusing if/when FoxyTunes's Last.fm support is finally working correctly.

Three stars for the effort (it even supports XMPlay!) and the potential utility I could get out of this extension.

Pastebin.com Quick Paster

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This add-on is a derivative of the Quick Paste add-on available at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7882

The Quick Paste add-on is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 United States License. The Pastebin.com Quick Paster add-on is on AMO as being released under Mozilla Public License, version 1.1.

This Pastebin.com Quick Paster add-on does not give credit to the Quick Paste add-on, violating the Attribution clause of the original CC BY-NC-SA license. This is copyright infringement, a.k.a. "piracy". pastebin.com knew exactly what they were doing when they did this. pastebin.com needs to comply with the original license by giving credit to TinyPaste, the developer of the Quick Paste add-on.

This can all be verified by downloading the xpi archives for both add-ons, expanding them with a program such as 7-Zip, and then expanding chrome/tinypaste.jar. You can even go a step further and see what exactly was changed by using a program such as WinMerge to compare the two codebases.

Laconica Bar

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

If you're not sure how to get Laconica Bar 1.0 to post to identi.ca, follow these instructions:

* Install Laconica Bar and Restart Firefox
* In the Add-ons window, select Laconica Bar and click Options.
* For the Service URL, enter the following, exactly as shown: identi.ca
* If you'd like to save your username/password, switch from Secure Mode to Safe Mode, then enter your credentials. Otherwise, you'll be prompted to enter them every time.

Note: Based on my experience, as of version 1.0, if you do not enter a Service URL, the extension doesn't work; you will not be prompted to enter a Service URL. This would be useful in the event you have accounts on more than one Laconica-powered microblog.

I'm not really sure what the "Before URL" field is for...

Once you get Laconica Bar configured, the experience is pretty much just like TwitterBar.

Book Text Mark

Excellent add-on. In my opinion, the only thing that could make it better is backup/synchronization of my marks and highlights.
