In a little more detail...

Yo FF guys!

My Reviews

Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This add-on does just what it claims. It makes it considerably easier to block ads that aren't on ABP's list yet. (It also works fine with the more aggressive AdBlock Edge.)

I am a bit concerned about the claims that it sends data to its website without users being aware of that. I don't know if that's true or not, but I think the developer should at least respond to one of the reviews wondering about that. (Maybe the dev doesn't speak English...?)

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.3.4).

Copy Plain Text 2

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works great! Just one minor quirk: I've found that when I inadvertently use it to copy some text that's already plain (e.g. Google Maps URLs), it fails to copy at all. Don't know why—but I'll just try to remember to use regular Copy in those cases.

FLOOD212: Try Keyconfig, here on the FF Add-ons site. It lets you easily redefine any of FF's shortcuts.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.3.2.1-signed).

WikiSearch

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It's simple and does what it's supposed to do: It adds a "Search Wikipedia" command to FF's context menu that opens a new tab with the Wikipedia article (if it exists) for the highlighted text.

I just wish it showed the results in a foreground tab, or at least had that as an option. Presumably, if you want to look something up, you also want to see it. :?|

Splash! (Compatibility Update)

And it doesn't work with FF 14, either, which isn't surprising.

Readability

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This started as an elegantly simple plugin that did one thing well: It removed all formatting from a page and let you read it as plain text.

With this new version, the authors have added unwelcome bloat. Like most users, I imagine, I was surprised and annoyed to find that THREE large ugly icons (two of them RED, yet) had been added to my navigation toolbar without my permission.

For the less-technical, here's how to get rid of them without completely uninstalling the add-on:

1. Right-click an empty place on your toolbar; then in the pop-up menu that appears, click Customize. (If a menu with that command doesn't appear, try clicking some different places.) The Customize Toolbar window appears.

2. Drag the offending icons from your toolbar onto the Customize Toolbar window. This should remove them from the toolbar.

3. Click "Done" to close the window.

Sheesh.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0).

Duplicate Tab

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

In FF 3.5, you can open a duplicate tab by holding Ctrl and dragging the tab to an empty place on the tab bar. You can also open the tab in a new window by dragging it into the content area.

Mike DePetris has also released a 3.5-compatible version of this add-on, which you can find on one of the add-on's MozillaZine pages:

I think he's simply changed the FF version number in its script, but I've installed it and it works great.

Thanks for this wonderful extension! (Or add-in, or whatever---never could keep those straight!)

translator

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This is a great add-on. However, it would be nice if you could specify your native language, so you didn't have to deal with the enormous menu containing every possible combination of translations.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.4.3).
