I have been using Thunderbird for many years but I never liked the notification mode. In 2007 I installed a Yamb add-on that allowed to call an external program and I developed my own notifier with VB6. I used it for a very long time until the add-on was no longer supported by Thunderbird and from that moment I had to use the default notification. Unfortunately last week, for some reason the default notification stopped working and I could not reactivate it. I found this add-on whose author I thank, it allowed me to reactivate my old notifier. It was not easy because VB6 does not natively manage stdin or JSON but I can again use the notifier that suits my use.

My main computer, which runs 24/7, is in a home office off the master bedroom. Sound notifications are great during the day but in the middle of the night - not so much. With this add-on I was easily able to create sound notifications that only work during the time range I set up. I even have a system tray icon now too! The project is very well documented and the examples provide a great starting point for creating the customization you want. Great add-on and kudos to the author for sharing it.

hey
i was looking for something like this, im currently on gnome and have another working solution(birdtray), but plan to migrate to plasma (wayland) and birdtray dsoesent work on plasma wayland (hope this thing does) so i havent actually tried it yet, but the initiative alone is worth 5 stars
