Speed Dial

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Once you get used to the speeddial, it's really hard to be just satisfied with a single homepage. I'm a very visual person so instead of names, I remember how a site looks, so this is just perfect tool for site recognition. I have 6 panels, with 15 sites each, so this almost serves as a secondary bookmark utility. You can even put a picture URL in the URL entry, so each cell can be made into a "gadget-like" utility, updating whenever the picture changes. I particularly like it for using to see if I have a new mail in my hotmail and gmail acounts, but I also use it for my local weather report, including the air quality graph. No other extension could possible do that.

NOTE: The defaults of the program are meant to work with standard 4:3 screen, so if you have a widescreen you might be a bit put off, but it's very easy to change. Just go to the Advanced Options of Speeddial, then Sizes panel, then under Width Modifier change it to 100% "of the available size". Voila! Now the cells will cover your entire screen.

Launchy

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Good but hasn't been updated in a looong time, and has major bugs, such as the inability to send links to applications.

If you can't get the new version to work, try the latest nightly build which you can find here:

http://bugs.code.downthemall.net/trac/wiki/NightlyBuilds

It also has a link to older builds.
