Confirmed broken with Thunderbird 38.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.5.1).

SMTP Control 0.6.0rc1 (Realease Candidate 1) is now available to correct the bug with SMTP selection.
You can find it here :
http://www.phpconcept.net/smtp-control/smtp-control-downloads

I will publish it on Mozilla web site as soon as I can, and then there will be a delay before the approval for publication.

Sorry for this bug, due to a change in some attribute value in message composer window.

Please let me know if you find an other abnormal behavior.

Unfortunately after updating to TB 38 last night I could no longer Send emails. Disabling this addon fixed the problem. Is a fix in the pipeline ?

Awesome idea BUT when on newsgroups (aka Usenet) it disable instant posting on the news groups
Workaround is to postpone actual sending
I will watch for a fixed release

The default service http://phpconcept.free.fr/xul/smtpcontrol/myip-xml.php for discovering the remote ip or the remote hostname is not working any more.

I'm using Thunderbird 15.0.1. The plugin works, but 1) often requires two clicks on the send button before it sends and 2) makes Thunderbird crash a lot (at least, Thunderbird never crashed before I installed it, crashed a lot whilst it was enabled and stopped crashing after I disabled it).

The latest release seems to work fine on both Thunderbird 5 and 6. The only glitch that I'm seeing is that you have to double click the send icon when sending messages instead of single clicking. The same applies to the keyboard shortcut - Ctrl -Enter needs to be pressed twice to send.

..therefore I cannot evaluate it.
Any plan for an updated version?

SMTP Control version 0.5.0 supporting TB 5.0 is in the review process.
Preliminary review is done. Possible download in version list section : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/smtp-control/versions/
Comments from AMO reviewer is linked to the use of enablePrivilege() function, use of password field in prefs (but not used in the current version - for future use) and use of setAttribute() for oncommand and onclick commands. I'm working on it.

Worked for me with the beta release downloaded from http://www.phpconcept.net/
The official release displaid an xml error (I'm on ubuntu 10.10 + TB 3.1.10) when I tried to access the preferences.

Thanks for this add-on !

I have a laptop that I connect at the office and at home. I must use a different SMTP server at each location and was looking for a software that would save me from having to change the settings continuously. Unfortunately, this addon does not work at all...

Any other suggestion?

Finally, no more manually switching SMTP-servers when bringing the work laptop home! This add-on automatically detects the network and uses the appropriate server (of course, you have to tell it which one the first time you're on each network).

Works perfectly on TB 3.1.1 Well done.

This extension is precisely what i need using my laptop on different networks that require the use of different SMTP servers.

However, it would be even better if it is able to change the SMTP server settings on the base of the network location I choose in mac os x network preferences. Firefox 3.5 does this for the proxy server settings, and there was an add-on to do it on previous releases too. It should be not too difficult to develop.

Unfortunately I'm not much into Javascript and completely out of Mozilla extensions development. It would take too long time to implement this myself.

One of the best addons I can't live without. Unfortunately, the latest version 0.4.0 doesn't work with Thunderbird 3.0.1. After the upgrade from 0.3.1 to 0.4.0, all my locations are still correctly set but my current location is not detected anymore :-( Thanks in advance for your help and your support to the Firefox community.

Too bad it doesn't work for me with Thunderbird 3.0, not even with a fresh and new profile :( I have used it with TB 2.0 for a while now, and it works perfect there, no problems at all. I can send email at my office and at home with my laptop, and it switches perfectly between the 2 locations.

Not usuable if you have multiple identies for the same mail account.
I informed the developer months ago on his own website about this problem and the problem still persists.

This is absolute not acceptable.

I too have had the issue with the location list not initializing. I tracked my issue down to line 152 of sc_local_info.js. There it appears to be trying to do a dns lookup on the ip address of the local machine, and if that fails an exception is thrown.

Just to fix it for now, I assigned an arbitrary value to the var 'dnsRecord', and that works for me. Some sort of try-catch block or something in that spot would be a more durable fix however.

Otherwise this extension does exactly what I want it to do.

Looks like a nice ext, but I can't use it on TB3...
Thunderbird 3 should be out in weeks, and it is so much better than Tb2 that a lot of people is already using the beta... will you support it any soon?

Thank you, keep up the good job!!

Starting with version 0.3.0 SMTP Control supports Thunderbird 3.0

This extension would be the solution for roaming with Thunderbird
- The support section link doesn't work

Using Thunderbird 3.0b3:
- SMTP-list is empty
- 'Default SMTP Server for this location' : 'Error in list initialization, please contact support'
- 'Location per account' : 'Error in list initialization, please contact support'
- 'Discoverd IP addresses' : 'Error in list initialization, please contact support'
- 'Ignored IP addresses' : 'Error in list initialization, please contact support'

- In the Error console, multiple Errors (All the same): "server_list.Count is not a function
Source File: chrome://smtp_control/content/sc_main.js
Line: 103"
