When exporting several messages to the specified folder, multiple messages appear "Unable to save the message. Please check your file name and try again later" and "Unable to save the attachment. Please check your file name and try again later". And I think that when saving, invalid characters should be replaced with something else (spaces, underscores). And not force the user to check each saved email and attachment, finding out what exactly was not saved. With the same success, you can use the standard export function, one message at a time. At least the same amount of time will be spent. ImportExportTools NG 14.1.2 (September 9, 2024), Mozilla Thunderbird 128.2.0esr (64-bit), Microsoft Windows 10.0.19045.4842.

Hay Dear I dont get option to import my google photos takeout in zip format. guide me if you can
Hi, thanks for the review!
Since Thunderbird only deals with email and attachments, I don't see how Google photos would be imported as Thunderbird doesn't manage photos nor does ImportExportTools. For Gmail a Google takeout would be mbox so those mbox files could be imported.
You can post to the github repository if you need help.

This is an excellent extension and use it all day.
I do have a problem with Thunderbird 128.1.0esr (64-bit) and ImportExport NG version 14.1.2 or 14.1.0
The emails export to EML format but are blank and only 8k in size, the attachments do not save in the exported EML file.
If I install Thunderbird 115 and install the addon through the extensions in settings all the emails export correctly.
Can you help please
Regards

Thank you so much for the nice review despite having a problem!
It's always frustrating when people give lousy reviews without trying to get some help first.
I am currently working on a beta to address several v128 issues.
Can you post this problem in the github repository where I can try to analyze the issue with you?

I love this add-on -- simple idea yet powerfully executed. Makes it so simple and easy for me to save emails based on topics/clients/suppliers etc. And I can choose in what format -- but I like using txt and attachments. A particularly important aspect to me is the ability to customise the filename and attachment folder for each email...so I have them all timestamped and can see a full history of my email communications with a client. Then I can keep my inbox clean and not taking up too much space.
A recent update from thunderbird caused a small issue in the output txt files, but the main developer for this fixed in within two days of me registering the bug -- awesome response!!
Highly recommend this add-on for anyone wanting to store all their emails on disk and keep them in order - and viewable for many years in the future.

In using this program, I found that it was dropping some emails, so I contacted the developer Chris. After lots of back and forth, we determined that some of my emails showed as NAME.eml whereas some others showed as NAME._eml. No idea why, but the latter ones didn't copy.
I figured out a rather cumbersome DOS solution, but Chris took the initiative to tweak the program to allow it to import them automatically. I tested the beta version which worked like a charm.
When you have as many emails as I do, a program like this is a life saver.
Great add on.

Fully featured export tool which works recursively through a folder tree.
Many filename customisation options.
Many filetype export options.
Dev is proactive & super responsive.

I have an issue with the import of an .sbd directory.
The MBOX files contained in the .sbd are individualy imported, but not the .sbd structure.

This is a good add-on. However, I am having a problem.
I have it set to back up on exit, but since about April, I have been getting "_MSG_dialog.title" and when I press OK, the backup is not created.
Deleting the add-on and re-inserting it again does not improve the situation. Please let me know how to improve this issue.
Thanks for the review, sorry for the issue.
This is something already being patched. It should only be necessary to do the following :
On the backup options tab make sure the Use modal window is set. The non-modal option is no longer compatible.
This has solved the issue for other users. If it does not, please post to the github issue :

ImportExportTools NG
v14.0.2
Thunderbird 115.9.0 (64-Bit)
LG

Worked perfectly for importing a few thousand emails!

Malheureusement ce greffon ne préserve pas la hiérarchie des libellés (étiquettes) de Gmail et ne les convertie pas en hiérarchie de dossies, rassemblant tous les courriels dans un seul et unique dossier.

Very good but relatively slow (but gets the job done in a few hours)
Importing 12Gigabyte and 105.000 messages from Windows Live Mail Export (Exported in less then a minute), 18 years of email (probably good moment to start cleaning anyway)
Intel 14700K CPU should not be a bottleneck,
maybe the SATA HDD slows things down.
40% done in about 65 minutes

I've been around a good while, but I've NEVER experienced such a superb developer as I did with this plugin. After deciding to get (the hell) out of the Apple walled garden, i had 20yrs of email data to move to Thunderbird on Linux (as a total noob to linux).
With a dog slow old iMac, very limited technical abilities, and some badly corrupted email folders, I didnt stand much of a chance.
But then came Christoper (developer of this plugin). Wow, just wow.
Day after day of fiddling and I finally have a nicely organised set of emails in Thunderbird, something I strongly doubted would be possible.
This plugin, combined with Christopher's phthon script, saved the day. I would urge all users to consider making a small donation to this project, the developer is as worthy of support as any I've ever dealt with. Please donate whatever you can (half of your donation goes to a very good cause).
Thank you so much Christopher.

I used the import to import mbox files originating from an outdated Microsoft Entourage instance (Apple iMac).
In first instance the tool was not able to import, but the developer responded quickly with a good solution after I reported the issues. Many thanks for the good support and the tool works great for me now!
I was not able to import multiple mbox files stored in multiple directories; that would be an improvement, because it is quite a lot of work to import folder by folder.

It is one of my favourite add-ons for thunderbird.
Had some issues with shortcuts, got in contact with the developer and now everything works fine.
