CookieKeeper

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I liked the idea of an add-on that would block unwanted cookies (just like other add-ons such as Cookie Monster do), but would also delete all unprotected cookies when Firefox closes. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any way to keep this add-on from deleting all cookies on exit (whether they're protected or not) by using that option. What's the point of designating some cookies as "protected" if they're just going to be wiped out anyway?

I wrote to the author of the add-on to point out this issue, but never heard back, so I've returned to Cookie Monster.

xpDefault Colored Buttons

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I like this theme a lot, and am glad that someone decided to resurrect it for the latest version of Thunderbird. However, there's a few problems I found with this update:
- Past-due tasks don't change colors any longer
- Tasks don't show the check mark column any longer
- Tasks don't show the priority icon any longer
- When writing an e-mail, the header input fields are not shown as input capable
- In the calendar, the checkmarks for selecting which calendar(s) to show are missing
There may be other issues, but these are the ones I noticed immediately.

Forecastfox Weather

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I agree with all the enthusiasm that everyone is expressing for Forecastfox, and also share their disappointment with the new inability to use it brought about with FF 29. That IS part and parcel of the fun, little accelerated FF update schedule after all -- discovering what gets broken and how to fix it again in each new release.

With that said, I'm puzzled with the comments from those who are stating that everything can be fixed by installing the Forecastfox update from the link provided by so many, along with re-establishing the add-on bar through one of a handful of new add-ons fixes. Yes, I followed those steps and was then able to customize and drag Forecastfox back down to the add-on bar. Problem is that is doesn't stay there -- within a few minutes or when I restart FF, it disappears again. Unless I'm missing something, I don't see the improvement.

More concerning is the fact that the developer seems to be silent on the subject. I do hope he hasn't abandoned all of his faithful followers. Version 2.2.4 doesn't seem to be an improvement, so we need something else. Otherwise, we're all stuck. AniWeather also seems to be plagued with the same issue, so the only alternative right now seems to be Weather Now, which doesn't have anywhere near the capabilities.

NewsFox

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I like most things about this add-on, with one exception. I can't find any way to hide news items that I've already read. So what this means to me is that if a newsfeed has 100 items, with only one that is still unread, I have to scroll through all 100 lines just to find the one I want to open. I even tried changing the sort order so that unread items will be on top, but that didn't work at all.

Bookmarks Checker - check for bad links

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

A pretty good add-on, but the latest version (1.4) messes up the navigation toolbar by removing the icons I put on there and putting on ones that I didn't want.

Pretty good add-on, but the latest version (1.4) messes up the navigation toolbar by removing the icon I put on there and puts on a couple of different ones that I didn't want.

QuickNote

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Very good add-on. MUCH better than any other note-taking add-on that I've tried. Two problems however:
(1) If you open it in the sidebar (for example), make some changes, save those changes, close the sidebar, then open it in a "float window", it will lose the changes you made. Apparently, all three ways to display the notes are loaded at the same time (when Firefox starts rather than when the notes are opened and displayed???), so changes made in one display mode do not apply to the other display modes.
(2) I tried the development version to see if problem #1 had been fixed, but I found a new problem instead - the captions on the note tabs do not display correctly.
