I would love to see a Linux version. I use Ubuntu. Thanks.

Thunderbird Conversations

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I just noticed that this extension replaces a few other addons that I now no longer need, such as Slideshow and Compact Header. Great!

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0.8).  This user has 3 previous reviews of this add-on.

Slideshow

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

As good as this extension is, it is rarely updated when new Thunderbird versions are released. Now that Thunderbird 5 is out we can start using Thunderbird Conversations (adds Gmail-like threading) which actually incorporates a Slideshow-like feature. So for those sick of waiting for Slideshow to be updated, go check out Conversations:

This addon really should be native to Thunderbird. It finally makes threading useful by adopting the Gmail style of showing all the messages in the Message pane, collapsed until the user requests to open them. It even goes so far as to include inline replying and a photo gallery view for image attachments. This extension really replaces some three or four other extensions and completely makes Thunderbird a pleasure to work in. It has been years since I've actually enjoyed communicating with people in Email, I would never have thought that a Tbird addon would bring that back. To the developer: Thank you!!!

This is a terrific addon, it certainly makes sharing photos in email more useful. This is the addon that is preventing me from upgrading to Thunderbird 5, it would be nice if the "Website" link were updated to the new maintainers' website with a link to the "Tbird-5 compatible version" mentioned in another review reply.

Thanks!

Muttator

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

The rolling-release version on the Muttator site supports the latest Thunderbird 5:
http://vimperator.org/muttator

Of course some things are broken in that version, too, but on the whole it works well.

DragToCompose

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This is great, it really speeds up my workflow. One thing must be emphasised: the file is not dropped onto the Compose button. Rather, hovering over the Compose button for one second opens the Compose window, to where the file is dropped.

This is great. I had filed about twenty issues on this addon when it was new, and the dev was very quick to fix them. Even some esoteric bugs, such as Hebrew and Right-To-Left issues, were handled with utmost priority. The dev even went so far as to resolve a conflict with another extension by helping to improve that second extension, and then packaged everything up nice for me to test instead of waiting for the other extension's authors to get around to it.

This extension is a real pride not only of open source software, but also of an open developer who really cares about his software and his users.

To those asking about an update to Tb 3.1, I have contacted the developer and he has no intentions of updating the extension as he himself no longer uses Thunderbird. Too bad, this was a great addon and should probbly be part of Tb itself.

This addon adds Gmail's "killer feature" to Thunderbird: flat threading in a single view. The developer is very active fixing bug reports and even feature requests, ensuring compatibility with other extensions, and ensuring that the extension works in all usage scenarios. Issues mentioned in other reviews, such as the attachments issue (Pierre) are being tracked in the GCV bugtracker already:
http://github.com/protz/GMail-Conversation-View/issues#issue/39

For those unfamiliar with Gmail's threading, this extension presents conversations as a list of all messages, both the contact's messages and your own. For those familiar with Gmail, like the microwave, we cannot function without it anymore!

Expression Search / GMailUI

This is a terrific extension, but it _still_ does not enable Gmail's conversation threading. If that's what you want, then vote for this bug:

ThreadBubble

A great extension, but missing Gmail's Killer Feature: threading with replies. For those looking for Gmail-style threading, vote for this bug:

@elPhilosoFee: Is this what you were looking for?

While I really like this extension, I find it irresponsible that the developer has abandoned the project and has apparently made no effort to find a replacement dev. I know that the extension is open source and that anyone could of his own inclination begin work on it, however, the developer should have made an effort to find someone willing before abandoning the project. This ruins the perception of Firefox as an extensible platform, because as soon as a single random extension developer looses interest in a project, a large population of users are isolated and are either prevented from upgrading their browsers, or forced to adjust their browsing habits.

Hebrew Switcher

Too bad this is not available for Linux. How many people are still using that legacy operating system from Microsoft?
