CloseReview for Provider for Google Calendar by skippdiddly

I am having similar authentication issues as others. I'm repeatedly being asked to sign in to Provider, however, the process cannot be completed because the hyperlinks aren't working. The 'allow' and 'deny' buttons are greyed out and inaccessible. In the same window, the links to 'Provider for Google calendar' and 'Account Permissions' are not greyed out but clicking gets null results. Double clicking these links partly closes Thunderbird, i.e., the program is still open in task manager but the icon has disappeared and Thunderbird can't be accessed unless I close in task manager and re-launch.
I'm using Thunderbird 45.2.0 Win 8.1 and Avast Free Antivirus and I realize this behavior (inactive links) may not due to the add-on.
I have tried to authenticate after disabling the antivirus, but this doesn't help. I've checked and there are no Firewall issues, and other links such as email, work fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Lightning and Provider many times.
I have checked the config editor and there are duplicate registry keys listed for Google calendar. I don't know which ones I should remove, if any.
By this point I would be happy to settle for repeated login prompting if I could at least follow through with authentication and access my calendar. Perhaps other Thunderbird users have resolved their own hyperlink issues. Could you shed some light on any of this?
