Safe Trash Cleaner helps you clean up your Trash, Spam, and Junk folders in Thunderbird in a controlled and secure manner.
You decide which accounts to include, which folders can be emptied, and whether additional confirmation prompts are required before final deletion.
The add-on was developed with a clear focus:
privacy, control, and trust.
Although Safe Trash Cleaner requires certain permissions to access the selected folders, your privacy remains protected: the add-on does not read, edit, store, transmit, or use your messages, personal data, or any other information.
Of course, there are already extensions that perform similar tasks. But especially when dealing with emails, Trash, and Spam/Junk folders, I do not want to blindly rely on third-party code. Emails often contain sensitive information, private communications, login credentials, invoices, or business content. That is why Safe Trash Cleaner centers on one principle:
as much security as possible, as little risk as necessary.
With Safe Trash Cleaner, you can specify exactly which mailboxes should be included. For each account, you can choose separately whether to clean the Trash, Spam/Junk, or both. You can also specify custom folder names if you want additional folders to be checked automatically.
Especially important: the add-on does not delete things blindly. Before anything is actually deleted, safety measures are in place, such as confirmation dialogs, an optional security phrase, and a dry run mode. In dry run mode, the add-on only shows what would be deleted without actually removing anything. This allows you to check what will happen before data is permanently removed.
